Greetings! I made it to Las Vegas and the 1,500 veterans attending the 4th Annual Veteran's Conference were wonderful representatives of our nation's business owners. They were there to build their businesses, make connections and continue the "can-do" spirit that we need in government contracting.
If you were there and attended my session, please remember to email me and ask for the complimentary materials I promised; it will be my pleasure to send them to you!
After the conference, my husband and I became tourists and visited Hoover Dam. Did you know that the dam is one of our nation's engineering marvels and was built by the first contracting teaming effort -- a joint venture of six companies? It was the largest government contract done to that date, and not only was it completed early, but it came in under budget!
I bring that up because many contractors today are struggling to deal with the burden of teaming requirements of the huge consolidated contracts. If you are experiencing this yourself, contact me for help. We are here to help you jump the hurdles, and become successful!
All the best,
Gloria Berthold Larkin

Is Your Firm a Gazelle?
New SBA Office of Advocacy-sponsored research offers compelling evidence in support of findings that should come as no surprise: high-growth gazelle firms matter. The research uses a new data set developed by the Corporate Research Board to get a sense of what high-impact firms look like and how they affect the economy. The study identifies more than 376,000 high impact firms...The firms are surprisingly old-25 years old on average... There's a reason why these companies are called "high impact."

New SBA Leader Selected

President Bush has selected Mr. Sandy Baruah, who now heads the Economic Development Administration, to lead the Small Business Administration. EDA is a Department of Commerce agency that invested $277 million in economic development projects across the country in fiscal 2007. Besides leading EDA, Baruah served as the Commerce Department's senior representative to a task force that examined the federal government's response to Hurricane Katrina and recommended improvements on how to handle future disasters.

Playing Your Best

Here's a practice plan to elevate golf results:
Use only one ball at a time and focus on one task at a time. Don't stand with a pile of balls in front of you. That tells your mind that the task is to make the pile of balls go away. The task is to learn to hit quality golf shots.
