Greetings!
Happy New Year! We hope you had a pleasant holiday season. Here at Blandford we're gearing up for a busy spring, including our popular maple syrup-making festival, Sugarbush. Don't forget to mark your calendars for this event!
Log Cabin Restoration
Log Cabin Volunteers

Meet three of our volunteers extraordinaire: Joan Stuecken, Frank Phillips, and Gary Fraser.  Joan started the project to repair the decaying logs on the NW corner of our historic log cabin and eventually recruited Frank and Gary to help.  They spent 81.5 hours filling and stabilizing the damaged areas and then rebuilding the logs with color-tinted concrete.  It was fun to watch them toy with getting the color just right and texturizing the logs, down to the intricate details of adding knots in the logs.  We couldn't do without the help of such talented and dedicated volunteers. Come see their great work!

Now openGeneral Store Saturdays

Blandford Nature Center is now open from Noon to 4 PM every Saturday!  This includes our Visitor's Center, Wildlife Education Center, and our General Store so bring your family into our lobby to enjoy the fireplace and turtle pond after hiking our outdoor wildlife trail.

Our Saturday programs kicked off January 2nd with "Owl Prowl" where families learned about our Michigan owls and how to call them in. January 16th will be the first of three presentations by Dr. Mary Jane Dockeray, Blandford's founder. The first is "Nature Spy." See more details on our Saturday programs, including dates and times on our events page.

On January 23rd, naturalist Kristin Tindall will be leading a snowshoe hike through Blandford's beautiful snow-covered trails. See details here and RSVP to reserve your pair of snowshoes!
Volunteer Opportunities
We need you!  With our new Saturday hours and our upcoming Sugarbush Festival, we have lots of fun ways you can get involved at Blandford.  On Saturdays you can greet our guests as front desk reception or sell our fabulous maple syrup in the General Store.  Sugarbush opportunities include trail guiding, maple syrup collection and processing in the Sugar House, and helping with our special pancake breakfast on March 27th. For a full listing of all our day-to-day and special volunteer options, visit our volunteer page.

Please contact Becky Brown, our Volunteer Coordinator, if you are interested in any of these positions - you may also visit our
United Way page for more detailed position descriptions.
