Also, since many in the community have just received their mail-in ballots for the Nov. 4 election, so here's a link to my re-election campaign website.

This summer's Downtown Block Parties were a terrific success.  We closed Santa Cruz Avenue to through traffic, restaurants seated diners at their tables in the street, and the downtown merchants displayed their wares.  Music, food, and fun were enjoyed by thousands of friends and neighbors.

Many non-profits displayed their services and were able to connect with community members. City of Menlo Park departments also had tables, so the public could ask questions and get information without even visiting City Hall.

Thank you to my colleagues on the city council for being so supportive of this idea.  Thank you to Brian Flegel and all the volunteers, to the Chamber of Commerce, and to all the sponsors for making these such a success!

Burglary Suspects Arrested
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Menlo Park Police Patch
Suspects in recent home burglaries in Suburban Park and Flood Triangle break-ins have been taken into custody.  One of the suspects was identified by way of Menlo Park's new Truancy Abatement program.  Read press release.
With our police force now fully staffed, we have three special units operating: 1) Traffic Enforcement motorcycle unit for safer neighborhood streets, 2) Narcotics Abatement to keep methamphetamines and other dangerous drugs out of our city, and 3) Truancy Abatement program to keep kids in school, out of gangs, and out of trouble.
Full staffing of the police force has been a major focus for me and the whole city council over the past year and more, and it is great to see these programs started up and being effective.
Campaign Corner: Challenger Fabricates Oak Knoll Permit Issue
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  Campaign logo
Shocking those who actully participated in the October 7 city council meeting, Rich Ciardella issued an email on October 9 fabricating issues and accusing councilmembers of a lack of support for an Oak Knoll School encroachment permit.

As a parent with kids in Menlo Park public schools, I endorsed the 2006 school construction bond measure (Measure U), assisted with its election campaign, phone banked, and corrected issues in-person at polling stations when distraught voters called me because of some ballots missing Measure U. My husband and I have personally contributed thousands of dollars to the Menlo Park Atherton Education Foundation (MPAEF) as long-time supporters and local schools parents.

This accusation is particularly preposterous considering the School District will not even apply for such a permit until November at the earliest because the State Architect must approve the Oak Knoll plans first.  Menlo Park staff has been working in a highly pro-active manner with the School District to ensure all conditions are agreed upon and all plans and paperwork are filed well in advance of the permit application.

The local schools superintendent updated our community after my opponent had issued his political attack.  Our superintendent instead stated: "The Board of Education and I are pleased with the outcome of the meeting and would like to express our appreciation to those of you who attended as well as to everyone who has participated in the facilities planning process at Oak Knoll and our other Distrist Schools."  As voters and often as parents, you decide which is political spin, and which is constructive and cooperative local government in action.

I ask all in Menlo Park to leave behind the petty politics and divisive tactics of the past and focus on what's best for our kids and the future of Menlo Park.

I am really enjoying meeting and re-connecting with all constituents at the Farmers' Market, local grocery stores, and in the neighborhoods.  From what I'm hearing and seeing so far, voters perceive the city council is "on track" tackling big projects and meeting the needs and expectations of the community.
