 The Clean Energy Economy and Global Warming are hot topics in Silicon Valley these days! Jay Inslee's new book, Apollo's Fire: Igniting America's Clean Energy Economy is a superb primer on these subjects. Inslee serves on the Energy Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and is a champion in Congress for progressive energy policy.
I'll be introducing my friend Jay Inslee at the event, who will be speaking along with co-author Brackston Hedricks.

City Council's Climate Action;
Green Ribbon Citizens' Committee (GRCC) Kicks Off Year Two
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Menlo Park City Council recently authorized staff to develop a Climate Action Plan (CAP) for the Menlo Park community. This plan will prioritize actions to reduce the community's climate pollution. Already, 19 actions are programmed (including some completed) for the current budget year, as well as a number of others proposed for the 2008-09 budget year.
Pursuing a Climate Action Plan was the GRCC's primary recommendation in its Climate Action Report in November. The recommendation was echoed in an independent consultant's report.
In 2008 the GRCC will engage with five community sectors to provide education and tools to reduce their greenhouse gas footprint: schools, businesses, communities of faith, building professionals, and homeowners/neighborhood associations. In addition, participants will continue research and public education efforts regarding sustainable building, energy, waste reduction, transit/transportation, and green business. To volunteer or just learn more: GRCC Homepage
Local Governments for Sustainability's (independent consultant's) Menlo Park Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory Report can be found on the city's website, under "Items of Interest" in lower left corner (first item on list): www.menlopark.org
GRCC's November 2007 Climate Action Report and Recommendations likewise can be found (middle of the list): www.menlopark.org
Earth Hour This Saturday: Lights Out 8pm to 9pm to honor the need for action to solve the greatest threat our planet has ever faced. More at www.earthhour.org.
