Open to writers and visual artists of all kinds, SPARK is a participatory creativity event that takes place four times each year. Visual artists and writers get paired up and trade work.
The project's rules are simple. Writers send artists a story or poem, and artists send writers an image of their painting, photograph, or sculpture. These inspiration pieces can be something created just for the project or a piece from the participant's existing portfolio of work. During the 10-day project period, each person uses their partner's inspiration piece as a jumping off point for new work of their own--creating a response piece in their own medium.
Once the project begins, the collective creative energy starts to flow, fueling the endeavors of individual writers and artists from coast to coast and around the world. Often, that energy remains after the project's 10-day period, and the desire to create takes hold deep inside of participants, inspiring more work and more creativity.
You're invited to meet SPARK participants at a reception on Saturday, October 17th, from 7pm to 9pm. This special reception will feature readings by SPARK participants and live music by Mark Owen Martin, playing a composition created during the project.
