San Francisco resident a finalist for prestigious writing awards

SEATTLE --  Best-selling Amish-genre author Suzanne Woods Fisher of San Francisco is up for another award for her latest fiction work The Choice. A finalist in the "Long Contemporary" category this year, Fisher was selected by the American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) for an envied Carol Award, bestowed on authors of Christian fiction. Winners will be announced in September at the annual ACFW conference.

Earlier this month, Fisher was a finalist for a Christy Award in the Contemporary Series category for her book The Waiting, an award that recognizes novelists and novels of excellence in Christian fiction.

A report released recently by the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA) identified Fisher as one of seven bestselling authors from Baker Publishing Group. She was also recognized for her high percentage of sales per title-another indication of her popularity.

"It's always a humbling experience to receive such an award," says Fisher, "and to be considered for several at once is overwhelming. I am passionate about writing and about Amish culture, and I am thrilled to be recognized for my work."

Fisher has sold 350,000 copies of her books in under two years, and she's contracted to write several more through 2016. Library Journal had this to say about her latest non-fiction book, Amish Wisdom for Your Family, "Fisher has rapidly established herself as a kind of conduit for outsiders interested in learning about Old Order and Amish traditions--a kind of inheritance from her 'Plain' grandfather. While we are all in danger of misunderstanding the Amish and celebrating a falsely folksy, twee quality, Fisher's work attempts to establish firmer links between Amish values and our world without entirely

embracing their choices or rejecting ours; readers of the increasingly popular stream of Amish fiction should enjoy this taste of Amish reality."

Christian fiction continues to grow in popularity, resonating with readers looking for both faith and fiction. Fisher's Amish fiction is renowned in Amish circles and among fans of Amish fiction.

About Suzanne Woods Fisher:

Fisher's interest in the Amish began with her grandfather W.D. Benedict who was raised Plain. She has many Plain relatives living in Franklin County, Penn., and travels back to Pennsylvania and Ohio from San Francisco several times a year for research.

In addition to writing best-selling books, Fisher is the host of a weekly radio program called Amish Wisdom. Her books have been finalists for ECPA Book of the Year the last two years. You can find more information about her at www.SuzanneWoodsFisher.com.
