Dear Parents, Alumni and Friends,

It is our pleasure to present you with this issue of Community Happenings.  We thank you for your overwhelming support and for allowing us to be a vital part of our community.  We hope to see you at an upcoming community event in the near future!

Chicago Rabbinical Council Connection

CRC Pesach Fair
Pesach Fair

This year, HTC partnered with the Chicago Rabbinical Council to offer two new exciting programs.  In April, the cRc held a Pesach fair at HTC to provide community members with helpful services before Pesach, including kashering of keilim, shaatnez testing, romaine lettuce checking, knife sharpening, a question and answer booth, a canned goods drop-off, and mezuzah checking.  As a service to the community, a Shaimos drop off was held in August to properly dispose of holy texts.  We look forward to continuing this valuable partnership and providing more joint HTC-cRc programming in the future!

Senior Outreach

Park Plaza Learning

HTC is proud to announce a new community shiur for residents of the Park Plaza Retirement Center.  Rabbi Yirmiyahu Neuman, Rosh Chabura of HTC's Sam and Nina Bellows Kollel, will deliver "Talmud Topics" on Tuesday mornings at 9:00 a.m. in the dining room.  We look forward to this new, engaging and thought-provoking program!

To mark the occasion of its first anniversary, Gourmet Torah at Shallots Bistro featured a special guest speaker, the acclaimed storyteller and author from Israel, Rabbi Hanoch Teller.

Gourmet Torah, a tremendously popular community "lunch and learn" program, meets every Thursday at 12:35 p.m.

Study exciting Torah topics with HTC's outstanding Rabbeim and faculty and choose from an assortment of delicious (and affordable!) lunch options. We hope to see you at the next Gourmet Torah!

Sunday Morning Learning at HTC
Relive Your Yeshiva Experience

All are also invited to join the Yeshiva for davening at 7:30 a.m, followed by breakfast.

33rd Annual Nachman Patinkin Memorial Lecture
Rabbi Steven H. Resnicoff
Rabbi Steven H. Resnicoff

On May 29, HTC hosted its 33rd Annual Nachman Patinkin Memorial Lecture. This year's speaker was Rabbi Dr. Steven H. Resnicoff, Professor at the DePaul University College of Law and Co-Director of its Center for Jewish Law and Judaic Studies. Rabbi Resnicoff's timely topic of "Anti-Israel Hostility Within Academia: Acknowledging and Fighting It," drew a crowd of over 100 participants.

Shabbos of Chizuk
HTC Inspires Our Community for the Yomim Nora'im    Shabbos of Chizuk

On September 23rd, Parashas Nitzavim-Vayelech, our community was privileged to take part in the Rabbi Zvi Menachem Teller z"l Shabbos of Chizuk. Special thanks to Rabbi and Mrs. Bernard Neuman of Skokie, Mr. and Mrs. Abe Sova of Lincolnwood, and Mr. and Mrs. Oren Skidelsky of West Rogers Park, for opening their homes for spirited Ongei Shabbos.  HTC also thanks Rosh HaYeshiva Rabbi Avraham Friedman, Rabbi Yirmiyahu Neuman and Rabbi Yosef Polstein for delivering words of inspiration.

The main event of our Shabbos of Chizuk was a community family luncheon held at Congregation KINS, featuring a powerful keynote address from Rabbi Shmuel Leib Schuman.

Thank you to Rabbi Schuman, and to the nearly 300 people who attended, for making this event such a terrific success!
