Dear FYHS parents and friends,
With great pride and thanks to HaShem, we welcome back our returning students as well as our newest additions. We wish hatzlacha to all our students in their upcoming studies. May this year be a year of growth and achievement for all.
We invite you to read about the current achievements of the Fasman Yeshiva High School. |
| Rabbi Daniel Freund Assumes Role as Dormitory Supervisor |
Rabbi Daniel Freund may be new to the job of dormitory supervisor, but he is certainly no stranger to our yeshiva. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Rabbi Freund spent his high school years living in the same dormitory he now supervises. This experience has given him a unique perspective. "To me, the dormitory is just one big happy family", Rabbi Freund said with a smile, clearly drawing from his own positive experiences. With this in mind, together with Mr. Hillel Efron and the dormitory counselors, he'll supplement his primary responsibility of caring for the safety and welfare of all dormers, with a program which aims to enhance the overall experience of living away from home.
Rabbi Freund, after graduating from FYHS, studied in Israel and continued his studies in America eventually returning to HTC as a member of the Bellows Kollel. During this time, he was involved in many other Yeshiva functions, such as teaching Hebrew language, managing the bookstore, and giving a popular extra-curricular halacha shiur. But possibly the most valuable expertise he brings to the job is his own experience living in the dormitory.
Rabbi Freund and his staff arrange weekend trips, plan barbecues, and organize Thursday night trips to a kosher grocery store, among other activities designed to make the dormers feel at home while away from home. Additionally, he leads the Shabbos meals and is responsible for organizing optional Shabbos shiurim and Ongei Shabbos to enhance the ruach and excitement for the students. |
| FYHS Students Achieve National Merit Commendations |
As yet another reminder of the strength of our college preparatory program, Fasman Yeshiva High School proudly congratulates five of our twelfth graders on being named National Merit Commended Students. Scott Dubinsky, Joshua Forgy, Yitzchak Resnicoff, Binyamin Rosenstein, and Moshe Volovik were all awarded this prestigious distinction based on scores they earned on the PSAT standardized test taken during eleventh grade. The PSAT is a test designed to prepare students for the SAT, and contains sections in the areas of math, reading, and writing. Out of a possible 240, each of these students' composite scores surpassed 200, placing them in the top three percent of all national scores. Certificates of commendation from the National Merit organization will be presented to them at graduation this June. Assistant Principal Mr. Sheldon Schaffel had the honor and pleasure of personally informing these high achievers of their distinction, wishing them continued academic success.

| Making Torah A Blast!dline |
The strong, clear sound of Torah learning reverberates through the Yeshiva every Tuesday night, as the high school upperclassmen pack the Beis Midrash for a new, unique program. Students are matched up with either High School Rabbeim or experienced Kollel and Beis Midrash mentors for an opportunity to receive personalized attention, while honing their gemara skills. Specifically, the setting provides an opportunity for each student to work on his reading skills - something the Yeshiva has always emphasized, and is best accomplished in the small groups this innovative program now provides.
This program is just one component of the Yeshiva's commitment to recognize and cultivate the full potential of each and every student. Early reports indicate that the program is successful, and also enjoyable, as students are glad to have an opportunity to strengthen their connection to Rabbeim and other knowledgeable, older mentors.

Baseball Diamond Renovated |
Our students now have an additional way to enjoy themselves, while at the same time getting exercise and building camaraderie. The second improvement to the Yeshiva's athletic facilities has been completed. A totally renovated baseball diamond, rededicated in memory of Steven Schwartz A"H, a former student at FYHS, joins the new basketball court, now being enjoyed by the students.
The diamond, built by Sportsfields, Inc., was enlarged and they properly reshaped the arc of the field. Additionally, the field absorbs and drains the rain more quickly than our previous field. Other improvements include permanent bases, a chalker for base lines and a dragger to smooth out the field. Under the surface, there are also special bricks to help prevent excessive sagging under high use areas such as the batter's box and pitching mound.
A scoreboard has been built as part of our woodshop program with Mr. Ben Baer. Together with our newly illuminated basketball court, the Yeshiva sports facilities are now state-of-the-art. Additionally, with two parks right next to the Yeshiva, our boys have access to four tennis courts, a soccer field and a running track.
