Summer is in full force and the living is easy! 

 

Ever notice how during summer, life is so promising? The plants are in full bloom, the sun feels glorious and the longer days give boundless energy, encouraging us to go for our greatest desires and dreams.  

 

Want to harness this energy for yourself? Just ride the wave of summer and try something new!

 

Throughout the year we are generally conditioned to run our lives at an intense pace and we often get stuck in routines, either for the sake of efficiency or out of fear of unfamiliar territory.  

 

The lack of variety in doing the same things over and over not only stagnates our minds, but our bodies and hearts as well.  

 

Hesitant to break your routine? It is interesting to note that fear and excitement have the same physiological expression in our bodies.  

 

It is the mind that classifies a feeling as either positive or negative. So, the next time you consider a change in routine and your mind says "scary!" see if you can re-frame it as "exciting!"

 

Creating a Life You Love

What is something you have never done before or wanted to do for a long time?  

 

Make your own adventure! Organize a camping trip, take a dance class, travel to someplace exotic, set a goal for a new personal challenge.  

 

Or try something simple like playing tag with your kids or reading in the sunshine. Maybe it's time to discover a new vegetable, visit a new town, beach or restaurant.

 

Increasing new experiences and adding excitement in your life can decrease your need for and dependence upon junk foods and artificial stimulants like caffeine and sugar, leading to more vibrant health naturally.  

 

Feel massive improvements in your physical well-being, mental clarity and personal motivation when you fill your summer schedule with a portfolio of fun.

 

Whatever calls to you, use this summer to make it happen and fully enjoy the life you came here for!

Food Focus: Raw and Cooling Salads
Sprout Salad

Why is it that in the summer we naturally crave more fresh and raw foods?

Because these foods have a cooling effect on the body.

Their lightness and high water, fiber and vitamin content act as our internal air conditioning during these warm months. At this time of year we also need less dense, high-energy food because we get so much energy from being outside in the fresh air and sunshine.

 

There is no better season to have fun creating fresh, tasty, creative salad combinations. By simply tossing together several of your favorite veggies, you'll have a perfect meal for a hot day.  

 

Try your favorite leafy greens with a variety of sliced, diced, chopped and grated veggies for texture. Add a bit of fresh herbs for full flavor. 

 

Experiment with different proteins on your salad. Add a handful of seeds, sprouts, nuts or beans. Then mix it up with an easy squeeze of fresh lemon or lime juice and a drizzle of cold-pressed oil. 

 

Summer is a great time to try something new from your market. What are some creative flavors you've never tried before? Fennel and mint? Daikon and arugula? Summer squash and watercress?

The possibilities are endless. Whatever you choose, have fun with your food and stay cool.
