Changing with the Seasons
While Summer is not yet officially over, September is often a time when we like to focus on getting back to business as usual. Renewing old schedules and establishing new routines while keeping meal plans on track can be a challenge, especially if you are noticing the need to change with the seasons.
For many, the coming of Autumn represents a time to begin turning inward. It's the season for gathering, and energy is directed towards work, family and projects at home.
Ancient healing traditions teach that along with Autumn comes inspiration, deeper communication and an increased awareness of our inner processes. Worry and grief may be pronounced, since these are the emotions associated with Autumn. You may find yourself weepy, as this is the sound of Autumn.
Metal is the element of Autumn, and it governs our lungs (yin) and large intestines (yang). We function best when these two areas are kept clean, and these are the major organs you want to focus on this time of year.
Since grapes are harvested in the Autumn, they'll make a wonderful cleansing tonic. Try five days of having only freshly prepared organic grape juice, or eating just grapes for a week. You can balance the sweetness of the grapes by drinking fresh squeezed lemon juice in water.
Other juices that work well for cleansing are apple, pear or orange in the morning, with carrot, beet, celery, zucchini and parsley later on. Always dilute your juices with purified water and drink slowly for best digestion.
Plan to detoxify during late September, especially if you are prone to sinus troubles and frequent colds. You'll experience a surprising boost of energy as you eliminate potential illness by flushing out the excess.
The choices you make now will determine how well you'll feel this Winter. Be sure to slowly transition to the warming, richer foods after your cleanse.
And please contact me if you need any help.
In Joy!

The Walk to Prevent Walking
I just received this news from Alok Health and it's so cool.
On Saturday, September 14th, at Tompkins Square Park in NYC, a health revolution will begin! People will consciously gather as a community to do something pro-active and positive for our own health.
This will be a day of rest and relaxation, a day of exercise, and a day to eat well. There will be music, yoga, tai-chi, healthy snacks, meditation, dancing and opportunities to learn new things and grow in a healthy understanding of life. There will be activities throughout the day. Join in as many as you like from 11 am to 7 pm.
This is a first-ever event of its kind in NYC and an amazing day is planned. The keynote speaker will be Joshua Rosenthal, founder and director of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.
Yoga will be provided by YogaWorks, Tai-Chi by the William C.C. Chen School of Tai Chi, and music by DJs Fabian Alsultany of Globesonic, and Kervyn Mark of The Melting Pot. Sambazon and Vita-Coco, among others, will provide beverages. There will be prizes and give-aways.
Consciously set aside Sunday, September 14th to take your health back into your own hands. Walk in this way to prevent dis-ease ... and to help prevent the need for any more walkathons.

Upcoming Event at Whole Health and Wellness

Joyful Vegan ~ In the Raw! Sunday, October 5th at 4:30 PM
Each season, I share with you a satisfying and colorful five-course menu that is easy to replicate with specific kitchen tools, simple instructions and fresh, delicious, organic ingredients.
We start off blending an energizing superfood beverage, then create a refreshing soup or cleansing salad, a delicious "pasta, rice, or burger" with all the fixings, and a marinated side dish. We end this nourishing dinner with a sweet treat for dessert.
I will choose the freshest, organic, whole foods available for the season, so menu is subject to last minute changes. The recipes are 100% vegan and all RAW. Come try it out and be surprised how delicious and nutritious a living foods meal can be.
Joyful Vegan is a fun, intimate kitchen class, and generally takes between three to four hours from start to finish. Enjoy the demonstration, hands-on practice, and a delicious dinner made with high-vibration foods and loving intentions.
