Cloudy turning sunny.  75°F.  0-4 mph. 18 participants.

binoculars and child A great morning to walk up Skunk Canyon. According to my fitbit, we climbed the equivalent of 26 flights of stairs and went about 2 miles. It started out really quiet, then we saw a Cooper's Hawk with prey which explained our silent start. After the Coop flew off it was better birding.

Red-tailed Hawk

The bird of the day was either a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher or a Red-tailed Hawk, but since last week's bird was the Gnatcatcher, we'll go with Red-tailed Hawk. The Red-tailed above was being shown the way out of the Cooper's Hawk's territory. I think they must be neighbors because the ousting was not given with its usual emphasis. We also saw the Red-tailed family flying together with the parents trying to exchange prey with the fledglings. All the images today were taken by Alison Sheets on today's walk.
