 June 30, 2012   Sunny and hot. 75-95°F. 15 participants.
binoculars and child I was up in Frisco, CO this weekend where it was much cooler, but I was still jealous to find out that the walk was on Old St. Vrain Rd. It is definitely one of my favorite June destinations. Thanks to Bill Eeds for leading the walk and to Alison Sheets for once again supplying great images for the Bird of the Day.

Grackles (and squirrels) don't like safflower seed much. So you can still get a good variety of birds without being overrun with grackles and squirrels by using safflower in your feeders.

The Bird of the Day decision was a hard one-so many great birds and experiences on this walk. Of note were the yellow warbler feeding young, the gray catbird feeding its three young,

and the great looks at violet-green swallows, but the begging Kestrel babies and their feeding by the adults won the Bird of the Day honors. Thanks again to Alison for coming on the walk and taking these images.
