Saturday Morning Birders

It was hot from the start this morning. Lots of butterflies out on the walk this morning, they like hot weather. Usually, we are a little early in the day for good butterfly activity.

Grackles (and squirrels) don't like safflower seed much. So you can still get a good variety of birds without being overrun with grackles and squirrels by using safflower in your feeders.

Bird of the Day
Yellow Breasted Chat Oregon
Yellow-breasted Chat

Yellow-breasted chats are quibbling away right now. They make a variety of noises, but often repeat the same sound in threes or fours. Get out and see them now while they are displaying, because in a month you will hear them and not see them. Several times this morning we got to see their nuptial flight display which reminds me of a butterfly flapping-very slow and deep wing beats which makes the bird bounce without a lot of forward movement.
