Chateau Haut Brion

And

Mills Fine Wine and Spirits

Announce

Our joint venture

Representing

The Clarence Dillon Properties

In the

Mid-Atlantic Region

Of the

United States

YES, You read this correctly!  Mills has been selected by Clarence Dillon Properties - owners of Chateau Haut Brion, Chateau La Mission Haut Brion, and Chateau Laville Haut Brion - to be their FIRST direct outlet in America's Mid-Atlantic Region.

For the last year we have been harping on about how important Bordeaux relationships are - now we have continued evidence that Mills relationships are just fine.

We are NOT going to write about the Haut Brion Properties other than to say they are amongst the top five in Bordeaux, PERIOD!

What we are going to talk about is the importance of this offering.  You will most certainly find better prices if you scour the internet and auction sites.  The difference is simple.  EVERY BOTTLE of our offering is currently at Haut Brion, La Mission, or Laville!  They have NEVER been anywhere else!  Their next home will be your wine rack!  Only those retailers selected to participate in this program can GUARANTEE this kind of provenance.  You don't have to worry about how the wine was handled before you get it!

As for shipping to Mills, we have made arrangements to air ship the vertical selection boxes of Haut Brion and La Mission Haut Brion directly to our Maryland clearing agent.  All individual bottles, no matter how many are ordered will be shipped in temperature controlled containers this Fall.

Payment:  Payment will be 100% on confirmation to Mills by Clarence Dillon Properties.  This offer will remain in effect only until May 5, 2010.

Feel free to call Mills wine representatives, Peter, Rick, Cheryl or Ben if you have any questions at 410-263-2888

THIS IS A TEASE PROBABLY NOTHING MORE:

We have asked a representative of Clarence Dillon to participate with us in a "Colonial" tasting of Haut Brion properties this fall.  They are interested!  After all, Washington and Jefferson probably spent time in Annapolis drinking the then Bordeaux named O'Brien.  This would be a dream come true, let's keep our fingers crossed!

CHRISTIAN MOREAU

Chablis Grand Cru

Les Clos

2006

Sold Nationally At $119.99

MILLS EXCLUSIVE PRICE

$59.99

Once again, our special sources have struck paydirt!  Mills has acquired a lot of Christian Moreau Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos from the 2006 Vintage.  Moreau is arguably one of the top five Chablis estates.  The Les Clos Vineyard is without question Chablis' Crown Jewel, and the 2006 Vintage is drinking beautifully right now.   This is without question our best White Burgundy value right now!

Read the following "Moreau Story" for further information

Domaine Christian Moreau Pere & Fils Chablis Grand Cru 'Les Clos' 2006

Producer Background: Christian Moreau, one of the leading figures in Chablis, is producing the wines he loves under his own name. Free of any personal involvement with the negociant company that his family founded and sold, with his son Fabien they founded Domaine Christian Moreau Pére et Fils in 2001 and set up their winemaking operation in the very heart of the Chablis country, at the foot of its famous Grands Cru vineyards.

The Domaine estates are located in the best oriented parcels, and bottlings include Grand Crus Les Clos, Valmur, Vaudésir, Blanchot, and Les Clos des Hospices (a Monopole from the Moreau family), Premier Cru Vaillon, as well as Chablis AC, and some Petit Chablis. Every parcel is harvested by hand to bring out the very best from each vineyard. The Moreau's winemaking philosophy is non-interventionist at its core, entailing biodynamic practices aimed toward creating low-yield, high-quality harvests. Additionally, grapes for every wine from the Chablis AC to the Les Clos Grand Cru are hand-picked.

Fabien Moreau became the winemaker with the 2002 vintage, and is already producing remarkable results. With previous experience in New Zealand, as well as Michel Laroche and Domaine Chevalier, Fabien is a visionary young winemaker who is a sincere adherent to the tenets of terroir. As such, the wines of Christian Moreau Pere et Fils are as remarkable for their authenticity and distinctiveness as they are for their consistently exquisite quality.

Wine Type: Dry White

Grape Type: 100% Chardonnay.

Country: France

Region: Chablis

Vinification:

2006 Harvest Notes:
A quick flowering in the mid-June lasted only 8 days in most parcels and was the cause of some uneven fruit development, but the end of June and the month of July was very hot, thus the vineyards suffered from the heat and lack of water. A wet August helped the vines recover from the extreme dryness. Picking began on September 16th, and lasted 9 days in the best possible weather. At the final stage of maturation, the observed natural alcohol level was between 11.9 and 13.2 for certain parcels, the acidity was way better than expected, and well-balanced juice was obtained overall. From an early stage, the wines showed green fruit and good minerality. The quality of the vintage should be excellent, and in keeping with that seen during 2005 and 2004.

This vineyard is located in the heart of the Chablis district, on the right bank of the Serein River. The vines are planted at high density (7000 vines/hectare) and are an average fifty-five years old. The soils are Kimmeridgien marl-calcium carbonate from the upper Jurassic period; very rocky with white, dense clays. The grapes are unloaded by vibration onto the sorting table to avoid damage. The wines are made utilizing pneumatic pressing, cool racking and temperature-controlled fermentation. Vinification is completed in stainless steel vats and the wine is aged for six months, 65% in stainless steel tank and 35% in barrels (90% in 1, 2 and 3 year-old barrels, 10% in new and 1 year-old barrels). There is natural tartaric stabilization after 12 months of aging.

2006 Cellar Notes:
Alcoholic fermentation went slowly and lasted to December. The malolactic fermentations followed naturally and rapidly, ending at the beginning of 2007. After the malos were completed, the low level of malic acid which remained in the must gave acidity often superior to that of the 2005 vintage. The will help the wines exhibit a typical lively and fresh character.

The blending ("assemblage") between wines kept in vats and in oak was made early February to avoid the strong oaky flavor given by the wood. The Petit Chablis and the Chablis were bottled in May, the Premiers Crus and the Grands Crus are to follow in September. The quality of the 2006 wines will be close to the 2005s, with a good degree of ripeness that gives opulence and richness while keeping the typical liveliness of Chablis wines.

Every year, Les Clos is the highest expression of Chardonnay in the Moreau cellar, and it has become a benchmark of excellence by which all other Grand Cru Chablis are measured.

Tasting Notes: "Pale yellow. Perfumed, refined aromas of citrus peel, powdered stone and violet; very high-pitched. Vibrant and precise in the mouth, with terrific energy to the flavors of citrus zest, grapefruit, underripe pineapple, flowers and powdered stone. Best of all on the tactile, palate-dusting finish, which boasts a bracing, refreshing bitter edge and outstanding subtle persistence. Forty percent of this cuvee is aging in barriques but the wood element is all but invisible." 93-95 points

Faux Labels

Le Faux Frog Wines
Presented by Toad Hollow Vineyards

When you search for diamonds, you don't find them easily, or under every rock. The same is true of fine wines. In our search for fine wines at reasonable cost, we traveled the south of France from Toulouse to Carcasanne, from Montpelier to Narbonne, and ultimately to the village of Limoux. Limoux is set among rolling hills with many grapes grown on their slopes. It enjoys the cool maritime intrusion of the Atlantic air. This is ideal for the growing of Chardonnay and the early ripening Merlot. It was there we found wines that were truly exemplary in quality and stood well above the many wines we tasted across the broad band of vineyards of the Midi and in Southern France.

We here at Toad Hollow Vineyards have produced the Le Faux Frog Wines since 1996...and after 11 years we think that these new releases are the best to date! The wines are produced in a state of the art facility and the grapes are from the best low yielding, hillside vineyards in the Limoux district. Now our new updated labels are as elegant and fun as the wines.

The Chardonnay is not mauled by a crusher but only whole-bunch pressed (as in Champagne). All movement of grapes, must, and juice is done by gravity feed without damage from the pump's impellers. All are kept in low temperature controlled-refrigerated tanks to maintain the fruit values. The final result is a superior wine!

The Merlot is one of the finest in the district- and in the Toad Hollow tradition, is not "massaged" and is 100% Merlot and has the distinct and elegant/silky flavor of the merlot grape - not convoluted or masked in any way. Aged in older French cooperage so as not to influence the flavor and let the wine soften in the barrel.

Our last offering is the Syrah- the most noble of the black varieties. Syrah plantings in France have increased ten fold over the last twenty years and the most spectacular of the new plantings have been in the Languedoc. This is a rich, dark, and intense wine that offers incredible quality for a reasonable price.

In a world that knows no boundaries, Toad Hollow is pleased to present these three unusual wines to our customers. They represent the same care and high standards that we have always insisted go into all of our wines.

The superior taste of the Le Faux Frog wines is quite enough to distinguish them from others, but we thought that you deserved to know why. Now we believe you do!

Mills Commentary

By Peter Finkelstein:

Just a short note this time.  I used to visit the vineyards of Washington state all the time when I was working for World Shippers and Importers.  The Quilceda Creek and Andrew Will wines from the Champoux vineyards were always considered the best red wines of Washington.  In recent years Caleb Fraser has been purchasing more and more grapes from Champoux.  His wines are now considered second only to Quilceda Creek yet we have NEVER seen them in the Mid-Atlantic region, until NOW!  Mills is delighted to have been chosen to offer the initial selection of these Beautiful Wines.

Winery: Bodegas y Vinedos Luna Beberide

Region: Bierzo - VdT de Castilla y Leon

Grapes: 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 30% Mencia

Winery: Alejandro Luna is the owner of this moderately sized estate. Born in Ponferrada he spent 10 years, from the age of 16 to the age of 26, in Madrid studying toward his Bachelor's and Law degrees. After finishing his academic work, he came to work as director for the family winery in 2001 which was started in 1987.

70 hectares of vines are planted between 450 and 900 meters, on south facing slopes in calcerous clay or decomposed slate. Vines range in age from 20 years for foreign grapes to 60 years for Mencia. 5 Hectare are used for experimental vineyards looking at how foreign grapes take to Bierzo's climate; they are planted with about 30 varieties including Riesling, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Macabeo, Albariño and Sauvignon Blanc. No herbicides or pesticides are used on the vineyards. The philosophy of the winery is to produce wines based on quality of and respect for the land, primarily from native grapes along with grapes from other parts of the world.

Winemaking starts with all grapes being hand harvested into 18 kilo boxes. Careful cluster sorting, eliminating unsound bunches continues the push toward quality. All varietals are fermented separately with native yeasts prior to aging in oak barrels. All of the wines are bottled unfiltered.

Wine: Produced using only native yeast from vineyards yielding 20-25 hectoliters/hectare, the wine was aged for 26 months in 80% New French oak and 20% American oak barrels from the finest tonnelieres (Radoux, Renou, Seguin Moreau, Taransaud, Canton, Victoria, Jaques Garnier y Demptos). After the wine was aged in the barrel it was fined using egg whites prior to bottling. No filtration or stabilization.

Reviews:

"Expressive with raspberry, chocolate and spice notes, this vibrant red shows juicy acidity and light but firm tannins. It's high-toned and graceful."

Described by Paul Pacult as: 'simply the best 12 Year Old single malt around', The secret of The Macallan lies in defiant adherence to traditional methods and ingredients.
