Maybe This TimeMaybe This Time by Jennifer Crusie
(St. Martin's, hardcover, $24.99)
Cruise's newest novel, Maybe This Time, is a romantic tale about a second-chance at love that combines her trademark humor and offbeat characters with a gothic mansion and a few ghosts. If you've never tried Crusie before, this is one of her best and a wonderful introduction to her work. If you're a long-standing fan, then you will not be disappointed.

Romance, mystery, and a happy ending -- Fortier delivers it all in her debut novel. Alternating between a pre-Shakespeare version of the story of Romeo and Juliet and the lives of modern-day descendants of the legendary feuding clans, this is the Bard's classic tale with a twist.

Mennonite in a Little Black DressMennonite in a Little Black Dress by Rhonda Janzen (Holt, paperback, $14.00)
The night I started reading this book, I woke my husband up with my laughter. Within the next few pages, I was struck silent by the author's poignant acceptance of the family and traditions she had tried so hard to leave behind. What a beautiful memoir and how can you not love a book that includes family recipes?!

Oscar and the Very Hungry DragonOscar and the Very Hungry Dragon by Ute Krause (North-South Books, hardcover, $16.95)
It's time to feed the dragon--but this year the village is out of princesses. So the villagers send Oscar, a not-so-plump little boy who would rather cook dinner than be dinner. Putting his culinary skills to the test, Oscar shows the dragon that filet mignon and banana splits are much more delicious than princesses and children.

Dave the PotterDave the Potter: Artist, Poet, Slave by Bryan Collier (Little Brown, hardcover, $16.99)
Dave was an extraordinary artist, poet, and potter living in South Carolina in the 1800s. He combined his superb artistry with deeply observant poetry, carved onto his pots. In this inspiring and lyrical portrayal, National Book Award nominee Laban Carrick Hill's elegantly simple text and award-winning artist Bryan Collier's resplendent, earth-toned illustrations tell Dave's story, a story rich in history, hope, and long-lasting beauty.
