Bones of Contention
Bones of Contention by Jeanne Matthews
(Poisoned Pen, hardcover, $24.95)
Bones of Contention, the first in a series featuring Dinah Pelerin, could be compared to a typical British Country house murder mystery except that the house is a broken-down lodge in Queensland Australia with inhabitants consisting of family and extended family originally from the Atlanta, GA area. The author has a lot of fun with 'Strine,' Australian Lingo. Her heroine Dinah, a wannabe anthropologist with a passion for mythology, provides even more fun for the reader with her unspoken thoughts and the things she does to try and find the killer.

JumpJump by Elise Carbone
(Viking, hardcover, $16.99)
A fabulous novel for older teens about independence, believing in yourself, first love, and my favorite sport -- rock climbing.
- Recommended by Jill Hendrix, store owner

Seashore BabySeashore Baby by Elise Braoch
(LB kids, board book, $7.99)
Introduce your baby to the beach with this entertaining board book! The vibrant colors and fun rhymes are perfect for catching young children's attention, and little ones will enjoy finding various objects under the large lift-up flaps. Perfect for reading aloud at the beach or at home, and sure to delight wherever you are.
- Recommended by Melissa Oates, store employee and mother of two

Lord of the Changing WindsLord of the Changing Winds by Rachel Neumeier (Orbit, paperback, $7.99)
Young Kes thought she'd grow up to be an herb-woman and healer, but when a griffin mage chooses her to be his apprentice, her life and her entire country will never be the same again. Rachel Neumeier does for griffins what Anne McCaffrey did for dragons -- one of my favorite fantasy reads so far this year!

An Altar in the World
An Altar in the World by Barbara Brown Taylor
(HarperOne, paperback, $14.99)
In this captivating invitation, Barbrara Brown Taylor prescribes twelve practices of what I call "the sacred ordinary." These pages offer encouragement to shift our gaze from the icons, the temples and the cathedrals and to find a way to practice our faith through the everyday experiences of life. This book is not to be devoured but to be savored for its common yet beautiful stories of living aware of the opportunities for gratitude and blessing those around us.
- Recommended by Cyndi Clack, store employee

Sworn to SilenceSworn to Silence by Linda Castillo
(Minotaur, paperback, $7.99)
This first in a new series stars Kate Burkholder, a gun-toting, cursing, ex-Amish female chief of police of a small Amish town in Ohio. She has a deep dark secret from her childhood which must not come to light if she is to keep her career. Her family shuns her for leaving the Amish fold but when several grizzly murders occur which mimic those from 20 years ago they must come together to find the killer.

James Leininger's parents were disturbed when their 2-year-old son began screaming out chilling phrases during recurrent nightmares, such as, "Plane on fire! Little man can't get out!" James was a happy, playful toddler who had only just begun stringing together sentences. Determined to understand what was happening to their son, Bruce and Andrea researched the arcane comments and fragmented details little James revealed, and came to a shocking conclusion: that James was reliving the life of James Huston, a WWII fighter pilot who was killed in the battle for Iwo Jima.

Since their mother's death, Carter and Sadie have become near strangers. While Sadie has lived with her grandparents in London, her brother has traveled the world with their father, the brilliant Egyptologist, Dr. Julius Kane. One night, Dr. Kane brings the siblings together for a "research experiment" at the British Museum, where he hopes to set things right for his family. Instead, he unleashes the Egyptian god Set, who banishes him to oblivion and forces the children to flee for their lives.
