Welcome to 'Connecting is not Enough' - Tips and tools to help you make the most of your networking
|
Welcome to another issue of 'Connecting is not Enough' and thank you for all of your responses to the survey I included in the last issue and sent out last week.
The survey has provided some really useful feedback. There are a couple of instances where you have asked me to respond direct, and I will do so, please just bear with me. We are working through the replies and you will see some small changes in the coming months as a result.
From our initial study of the responses, it appears that the balance is about right, both in terms of content and frequency. 56% of respondents want to see more networking tips, so I may go back to the old format of 2-3 short tips rather than one long one each issue, or maybe even mix it up. Please let me know if you like it.
44% of you liked the idea of video interviews with other experts and successful business people, so I will include some of these in the future too. A number of people have also asked about a podcast version, something I know Alan Stevens does very well with his Media Coach Radio Show. I will look into introducing this.
Thank you again for the responses, without your feedback I can only guess at what works and what doesn't.

In Sight In Mind
Networking Top Tip
|
Many people are critical of status updates on Facebook and LinkedIn and tweets on Twitter. Yet they play a very underestimated role in keeping people in touch with each other.
Time is scarcer than it's ever been, with so many demands on it both in our work and personal time. It's harder for many to find the time to keep in touch with old friends, colleagues and clients, particularly when our circumstances change such as moving onto other jobs, into new areas or new relationships.
In the past, many people would have seen old relationships disappear and be replaced by new friendships. Yet, if the friendship was rooted in firm foundations, there is no reason for this other than time. Now we can keep in touch with friends and professional contacts by posting status updates and commenting on theirs.
Such activity certainly doesn't replace physical contact, but can be very powerful in filling the gap when we don't see each other. And by keeping us in sight and in mind, it means that when we do see each other again, often it feels as though we've never been apart.

Next week is Social Media Week, a global event exploring the impact of social media and encouraging innovation, collaboration and the sharing of new ideas.
As part of Social Media Week there are events taking place around the world and it's well worth finding out which events are taking place near to you.
I've been invited to participate in one of those events next Thursday, a panel discussion in London hosted by Constant Contact, the company I use to send out 'Connecting is not Enough'. The title of the discussion is 'Multi-Channel Social Media - Small Biz Friend or Foe?' and you can book your place by clicking on the link.

If you're in the industry and would like to attend, WiBF would be delighted to welcome you. They'd particularly like to encourage more men to attend to balance the perspectives.

OK, I admit it. The iPhone 5 is on order! But in my defence, my HTC Desire Plus is driving me mad and I'm out of contract.
Anyway, in case you've been sucked in by the hype, or had enough of it, here's the 'alternative' iPhone 5 promo video.
