Alex Farewell - Prisaznuk, Head Grocery Clerk, Wants You To Know About Two Ends Of The Spectrum: Buttermilk & Cider
| Sofia helping Alex show Red Jacket Cider Selections |
Lets start with cider. Alex loves cider so is a sort of a connoisseur on what cider has good taste. He's tried Red Jacket Orchards apple cider and is excited for you to try the various offerings that he has stocked for Co-op shoppers.
Red Jacket Orchards is a local product grown on land that has been producing apples since 1917. They are a third generation, family run business. Their orchards are on the hills of Seneca Lake and have approximately 350 acres of apple trees owned by the same family since 1958 (the Nicholsons). They have over 50 years experience perfecting the art of juice and cider making. For further info click: Red Jacket Farm.

of weathering strong winds, they decided to put up a windmill. The project was completed in late September of 2004 and In the winter months, they generate between three and four thousand kilowatt hours per month. Straw from their cereal grains is used to bed the cows in a solar barn 60 feet wide by 120 feet long. Fresh bedding is added twice daily providing eighty-five happy cows of all ages a clean and comfortable bedding pack from November to May. This is why their cultured nonfat buttermilk is sooooo good. It's
priced this week at $2.59/Pint.
