  • Sterling 'Cross Team Hosts BASP Blowout!
    Night 'Cross Fun

The Bay Area Super Prestige is the regions most prestigous cyclocross series. The gang at Pilarcitos always puts together a great event repleat with a huge start/finish banner, sponsors galore, and racers eager to test their mettle on some of the most challenging courses we face.

For me the NIGHT RACE at Sierra Point is the ultimate. Anyone that knows me, knows I have a deep affinity for night racing. I don't know if its the lights or the darkness that compels me...but I do know that I love a good evening event.

This year's event is on November 14th - and we are going to throw a bash! We're working with sponsors and teammates to create some appropriate evening ambiance, get some tasty vittles, and maybe a couple of other suprises. I'd like to invite each of you to come out and watch some great racing, stop by and say "Hi" and just enjoy what is a truly fun spectacle. More details to follow

    'Cross Clinics & Learnings...
    Sayers

August 27th we're hosting a Cyclocross Webinar. This 90- minute presentation will cover some of the foundations of a successful CX season including: planning a season, training the right physiological systems, techniques for 'cross, tactical and race management, and more

The webinar is $15, but if you are reading this - here's a secret....just register under the "coaches" banner to get it for $10!

Athlete Of The Month: Jered Gruber
    Jered Gruber Maxing

A few months back I wrote an article on Pez Cyclingnews about changing up ones training. A couple of days later I received a note from Jered Gruber, a US Pro who has been living in Europe for the better part of the year. Jered liked what I'd written and wanted to collaborate on a project....getting him ready for US Pro Road Race Championships!

Whoa! USPRO is one of the most prestigous events on the calendar for domestic and european pros alike. Everyone wants to wear the stars and stripes! I was thrilled to have the chance to work with Jered and we immediately set about creating a program that would have him ready for the August 30th Race

And therein lay the challenge. Jered had been a bit lax in his riding for the better part of the year. Sure, he'd done some miles and had a bit of consistency, but he wanted to tackle USPRO, all its 110 miles and 100+ top professionals in a mere 7 weeks time!

    Uh, Ok...

The plan was simple - Do lots of Threshold and tempo work early on..then add higher intensity efforts later in the training block, ultimately finishing off with some motorpacing and fine tuning. So how did it go? Well, tune into this weekends racing to find out!

    CX Team Sponsors!
cx liza We are very pleased to partner with some really great supporters of Cyclocross. These sponsors help make the team successful by providing product and financial assistance to the team. For 2009 Our Sponsors Include:

Leopard Bikes: Home of the other-worldly CX1, Leopard creates unique rides for athletes across the spectrum of cycling. My CX1 is the nicest 'cross bike I've ever ridden. It stands up to bad lines, jumps, bumps, curbs and more...I'm really impressed! They also make a sweet road bike - the M1SL...I can't wait to get mine for 2010

Ritchey Components: Is there much else that needs to be said about Ritchey? Tom is one of the true pioneers in cycling, and his products serve their intended function year after year. Yet, they continue to strive and reach to develop ever more appropriate and cogent hardware. To that we say "thanks!"

Rudy Project Eyewear & Helmets: Chris Lupo was kind enough to offer us a pro-deal+ option in our first year with the program. We continually get updates on product developments and awesome discounts on items like the new Sterling Helmet (yea, I think they named it after us, though they'll deny it!) or their uber-sweet 5- pack of lenses and frames the "Patrol Pack."

Northwave Shoes: John McKone is a near legend at 'Cross Vegas, and he's friends with our buddies Mike Sayers and Adam Carr, so we had to give them a shot. I'm currently waiting for my Carbon SBS Mountain/CX shoes to come in the mail, although I'm a little a- feared they may be too stiff! Is that even possible for a performance shoe?

Fluid Recovery Nutrition: Dave and Company have put together what I think is the ultimate combination: all natural and top of the line ingredients, a comprehensive support program (they are at most of our races this season), and L-Glutamine! I've been using Fluid since June and really love the taste and results. If you use the link on our website (or the one here) we get a credit towards future team purchases as well...

BAMB R - Jim Werle and his mobile repair company return this year as our race support provider. Top notch mechanic, fomer 'athlete of the month' and all around good guy...Jim is the GOTO place for mobile bike repairs!
