Dear Colleague:

The SOT Quarterly Research Update is a service offered by SOTO-USA to keep doctors who are familiar with sacro occipital technique (SOT) aware of the latest research related events, papers, and concepts affecting our practices. Please contact me directly at drcblum@aol.com if you are aware of others who might be interested in receiving this quarterly newsletter.

Please don't miss SOTO-USA's 10th Annual CLINICAL SYMPOSIUM, October 22-25th, 2009, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

NYCC and SCUHS are offering SOT and Craniopathy Certification Series. See this newsletter for more information. Also there are SOT and SOT cranial pediatric classes being held throughout the United States held through the ICPA.

Don't forget your can always have SOTO-USA come to you by: Designing Your Own SOT Seminar - Click Here for Information

This update features information relating to recent SOT and SOT related published papers. The SOT Research Conference, October 22, 2009 in Las Vegas, is a part of the SOTO-USA 10th Annural Clinical Symposium. Lastly SOT is reaching out within and without to develop relationships to gain further exposure of SOT.

Some states require that doctors practicing specific chiropractic techniques be certified in that technique. So now you will have two opportunities: one on the west (SCUHS) and the other on the east (NYCC) coast to get certified in SOT and SOT Cranial.

Developmental Delay Syndromes and Chiropractic: A Case Report.

Blum Cl, Cuthbert S. - J Ped Matern Fam Health. Aug 2009: 3.

This article discusses SOT and cranial in the context of pediatric delayed develomental disorders.

Issues regarding chiropractic treatment for various types of conditions such as developmental delay syndromes, while controversial to some, have some support in the literature. At this time developmental delay syndromes such as ADHD have inconclusive etiologies. While many consider developmental delay disorders solely genetic in origin, others have supported the concept that a subset of patients may have a trauma or other physical related imbalances that could be contributory to the patient's dysfunction.

SOT Research Conference

 October 22, 2009 - Las Vegas Nevada

Building an evidence base of SOT and cranial information is a daunting task. But SOTO-USA has spent the past decade doing just that. Now SOT has a presence at all the chiropractic research conferences and SOTO-USA has had a presentation at every RAC/ACC conference since 2000.

The SOT Research Conference is an opportunity for doctors who have never published before to be assisted and guided into what seems like a mystical path to some. All papers submitted to the conference can also be submitted to the RAC/ACC and ICCR conferences as well as to peer reviewed journals.

At the present time we have had 30 papers accepted for the conference and we are going through the final stages preparing them for the conference proceedings. All of these papers will be professionally edited and prepared so that submitting to another conference will be effortless. Also the proceedings will be published in the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research which can be referenced in chiropractic databases.

Due to the efforts of many of the 5 papers submitted to this years RAC/ACC conference 3 came from the SOT Research Conference's submitted papers. Most of the submitted papers will be applicable for other conferences also.

A full list of authors and topics at this conference will be shared in the ensuing weeks.

 SOT Reaching Out
ICPA, ICAK-USA, AACP, & TMD Alliance

Drs. Marty Rosen, Christine Benner, and Curtis Langer have dedicated the past years developing and teaching SOT pediatrics through the ICPA certification program exposing many doctors who otherwise would never have learned SOT or craniopathy. We are anticipating in the near future begining some allied research projects with the ICPA. Also Marty Rosen has written a chapter on SOT for a new edition of the premiere chiropractic pediatric text edited by Claudia A. Anrig and Gregory Plaugher.

SOTO-USA has had multiple positive connections with the ICAK-USA from when Dr. Goodheart spoke at our clinical symposiums on SOT and currently working with Dr. Scott Cuthbert on mutually related research papers. We are in the process of discussions about how together we can continue research that supports the tenants of SOT and AK to further build a stronger chiropractic evidence base.

At this year's American Academy of Craniofacial Pain (AACP) in San Antonio, Dr. Charles Blum was an invited speaker and it was emphasised why dentists treating patients with TMD need to work with SOT doctors. Dr. Jeffrey Mersky is involved with developing future relationships between SOTO-USA and the AACP.

SOTO-USA is the only chiropractic member of the TMD Alliance or American Alliance of TMD Organizations. This illustrious group represents close to 15,000 dentists specialling in TMD treatment. Every February the TMD allance meets and is working on developing consensus and collaboration between dental and allied health groups.

Sacro Occipital Technique Organization - USA is a non-profit, professional organization formed to promote the awareness, understanding and utilization of the Sacro Occipital Technique method of chiropractic as founded and developed by Dr. Major Bertrand DeJarnette.

The SOTO-USA family all looks forward to seeing you October 22-25th, for the 2009 National Clinical Symposium in Las Vegas, Nevada. It will be a great opportunity to learn the essence of SOT or advance your SOT training with integrative classes in SOT, CMRT, and Cranial. For those interested in working with the dental profession treating TMD then this symposium are light years ahead of anything else available.
