| Welcome! |
Dear CDBF Community-
Wow, the year has zipped by and I can't believe we're already in the midst of the holiday season!
The holiday spirit of giving certainly was evident this week, with the support we received from the 2nd Annual Colorado Gives Day! The program was so popular that it was extended to a day-and-a-half, and over $12 million was donated to non-profits across the state, including CDBF.
We're also humbled by the spirit of giving shown by the good folks at the Colorado Chapter of the National Association of Asian American Professionals, who have named CDBF as one of the beneficiaries, along with the Colorado Chinese Youth Foundation, of proceeds from their upcoming Holiday Gala next Tuesday at Coors Field. Please attend, and help support the festival!
And finally, I want to send our heartfelt condolences to the local Laotian community, which has been a wonderful and inspiring presence at the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival over the years. The community lost its Buddhist Temple, which members describe as their "heart and soul," to a fire this week. In the spirit of the season, we explain two ways to help the Laotians: Donating to their Relief Fund at 1stBank, and attending their New Year's Fundraiser (it was planned as a celebration long before the fire). Support their cause, and you'll be supporting the spirit and purpose of CDBF.
Have a wonderful, safe holiday season and new year celebration!
Until next year,
Erin Yoshimura Executive Director

Thank you for a successful Colorado GIves Day!
|
Last year, the generosity of Coloradans shined when $8.7 million was donated to their favorite local charities -- far exceeding the original $1 million goal. This week, the 2nd Annual Colorado Gives Day blew past that amazing milestone t an incredible $12 million for non-profits statewide!
As an added incentive, the Community First Foundation gave extra money to all recipient non-profits, and some donors' gifts were matched by other sponsoring organizations. The statewide fundraising effort was so popular that the website to donate was slammed with traffic and Colorado Gives Day had to be extended to a day and half.
The Colorado Dragon Boat Festival is one of the recipients of your generosity, and we want to thank those of you who took the time and gave so generously, including Fay, Patty, Way, Kathleen, Lorens, Tom, Lelanda and many others!

| Our hearts go out to the Laotian community |
The Laotian community suffered a terrible loss this week, when the Lao Buddhist Temple of Colorado in Westminster burned down. The temple was the community's heart and soul, not just a place for worship but a community hub and a focal point for young and old.
Anyone who's enjoyed the races at the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival knows the Lao Buddhist Temple. Both the adult and youth teams sponsored by the temple have won more championships than any other team, and its community members have spread their great spirit year after year, dancing and playing their traditional panpipes and lutes around the festival grounds. The CDBF community extends our heartfelt condolences to the entire Laotian community and hope to see you next summer as competitive and full of your spirit as ever.
Donations for rebuilding the temple can be made at any 1stBank location; just make the check out to the Lao Buddhist Temple of Colorado Relief Fund.
And the community invites everyone to attend their New Year's Eve Fundraising Party, 6 pm-1 am Dec. 31 at 550 THornton Parkway Suite 212, Thornton 80229, $15. For more information call Maly at 303-231-4417.

CDBF Board members help clean up Sloan's Lake
|
The Colorado Dragon Boat Festival works hard every year to be good neighbors to our friends in the Sloan's Lake area. That community spirit extends to our Board of Directors.
On October 15, Board members Karen Nakandakare (pictured) and Chuong Le joined residents and members of the Sloan's Lake Neighborhood Association to pick up trash around the park.
Throughout the history of the festival, we've worked with neighborhood groups and City of Denver officials to take the best care possible of the beautiful grounds around Sloan's Lake that are so vital to CDBF's success as the premiere summertime family cultural and athletic event. We love Sloan's Lake Park!
