| Welcome! |
Dear CDBF Community-
The week is upon us for our fun-filled fundraiser, the Asian Game Night on Friday, October 14 at Kings Land!
I hope you can join us. We're planing a unique evening where you can dine on fine food buffett-style so your game-playing won't be interrupted. You can enjoy an array of traditional Asian games such as Mahjong, Hanafuda, Go and Sungka, along with a mini-midway of carnival-style Arcade Games with an Asian spin. Don't know how to play the Chinese game of Mahjong or the Japanese games Hanafuda and Go? Never played the Filipino shell game Sungka? No worries -- we'll have people on hand from our communities to teach you!
We're also going to auction off the paintings that were created during the festival's imaginAsian Mural Collaboration, and we're giving an Apple iPad2 tablet as the grand prize in a raffle. We're definitely putting the "fun" in fundraiser, so please join us!
Speaking of raffles, we met up with Michelle Lee, the winner of the Kymco Like Scooter from Sportique, which was the grand prize during the festival's raffle in July. She picked up her beautiful scooter this week.
We're also thrilled to announce the AAPI Emerging Leaders Program, the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival's new program to empower the 18-25 year olds in our communities with the skills to be tomorrow's leaders. It's an excting, comprehensive program. The deadline's coming up, and the training sessions will be early next year. You can read about it below, and learn more and have a deserving young leader apply online.
We're already workng hard to plan next year's festival. We want it to be extra-special because it's the Year of the Dragon and our first cycle around the zodiac! Stay tuned for the exciting details in the newletters to come....
For now, we hope to see you on Oct. 14 at Kings Land for the Asian Game Night!

| We're looking for future leaders |
The Colorado Dragon Boat Festival is proud to announce an important new opportunity for our community: The AAPI Emerging Leaders Program.
Over the years numerous Asian American Pacific Islander community organizations have expressed the need for culturally sensitive leadership programs dedicated to train AAPI youth and young adults.
CDBF convened a series of meetings with AAPI community leaders and determined that a leadership program specifically tailored for the 18-25 year old population is needed. The program is necessary to ensure that the AAPI young adults become powerful, productive, and effective community and business leaders.
With the generous financial support from Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Colorado Foundation, Arun Das Memorial Fund, Miller Coors and private donors, the Asian American and Pacific Islander Emerging Leaders Program was developed.
The AAPI Emerging Leaders Program Council would like to invite you to encourage your youth and young adults to apply for this program. The program is designed to develop their leadership skills through leadership training, mentorship, support, and development opportunities.
The program consists of 3 full-day training sessions to be held Sat. Jan. 21 2012, Sat. February 25 2012 and Sat. March 24 2012.
Read more about the ELP and urge the young leaders you know to submit an application -- the deadline for the inaugural program is Friday, October 28! |
