| Welcome! | |

Happy Fall!
Hope this finds you enjoying the crisp weather and the changing of the leaves!
We have a lot of events to share with you below to keep you busy this month!
Even though the 10th anniversary festival was over a month ago, we have more fun and festivities in store for you! Please mark your calendars for Friday, October 15th, 5:30pm as the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival celebrates its 10th birthday by bringing you another aspect of the Asian culture...games! See below for more information.
For all the dragon boat paddlers out there, check out ways you can improve your paddling chops with the Dragonboat Race Association of Colorado (DRACO).
The fall season indicates time for the mid-autumn moon festival, a tradition more than 2000 years old tradition in China and Vietnam to celebrate the harvest. It marks the autumn equinox, when the moon is at its fullest and roundest. It's also a time to eat savory moon cakes found at Asian grocery stores like Pacific Ocean Marketplace, one of our Marketplace vendors.
Have a great month and hope to see you at one of the events below!
Best Regards,
Erin Yoshimura

| NEWS FROM THE DRAGONBOAT RACING ASSOCIATION OF COLORADO |

Wheat Ridge Carnation Festival Parade On August 21, DRACO participated in the Wheat Ridge Carnation Festival Parade, showing off one of our new Taiwanese Flag-Catcher dragon boats (see photos). According to Parade Chair Stephen Keller, "DRACO and the Dragon Boat were lively additions to the Parade, and I will be sure to add you to the invitations list for 2011." Prior to this event, our new Flag-Catchers were on display in the DRACO Sculpture/Training Park at 4439 Brentwood Street.
Phantom Dragons to Race in San Diego The Phantom Dragons, DRACO's traveling competitive race team, will compete in the upcoming San Diego Dragon Boat Festival on October 23-24 (see here). We are practicing every Saturday morning and Tuesday evening at Standley Lake, and we still need paddlers! If you are interested in going to San Diego to race with us, please contact Captain Bligh at DRACO@cdbf.org. If you wish to sponsor the team and/or contribute to our efforts, please let us know that as well!
Winter Practice Opportunities For those of you who don't know, DRACO now holds practice sessions all year! During the boating season (May 1 through September 30), regular "on-the-water" outdoor practices are held at Standley Lake. Off season / early season indoor sessions are held in the swimming pool at the Wheat Ridge Recreation Center (4005 Kipling Street). We also have the benefit of a three professionally trained dragon boat coaches who have attended week-long Great White North training camps in Florida (one has completed the Dragon Boat Canada Level II Coaching Certification Course, and two have completed Level I Courses).
Last fall, to facilitate our off-season training, we constructed a training platform to simulate dragon boat paddling in a swimming pool. A YouTube video that chronicles the design and construction of our pool paddling simulator, and shows it in use at a recent practice session, can be seen at the here:
We're currently planning an indoor competitive dragon boat event for sometime this winter - stay tuned for details! I look forward to paddling with all of you soon!
Paddles Up!!!

CELEBRATE MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL |
The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important festivals in China that began more than 2,000 years ago. According to the Chinese lunar calendar, the 15th day of the 8th month is the exact midst of autumn, so it's called the Mid-Autumn Festival.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is an evening celebration when families gather together to light lanterns, eat moon cakes and appreciate the round moon. On that night, the moon appears to be at its roundest and brightest. The full moon is a symbol for family reunion, which is why that day is also known as the Festival of Reunion. |

DONATE AND HELP FLOAT OUR BOATS |
Did you enjoy the 10th Annual Colorado Dragon Boat Festival?
Producing a large event like this takes a lot of resources and funds each year. While we're grateful to our many hard-working volunteers, we need your help to ensure that we'll be celebrating many more birthdays for the festival.
We're trying to raise $20,000 by the end of the year, with people like you donating $10 (or more is great too!) to move the dragon boats a little closer to our goal.
We partner with an innovative Denver organization, GivingFirst, to process your online donations.
When you donate to CDBF through GivingFirst, the Community First Foundation will pay the credit card processing fees. So every dollar you donate goes straight to our campaign. This is a great way to maximize your generous donation in support of the largest pan-Asian celebration in Colorado.
