Surviving Software Trials and Coming Up with a Winner
Looking to switch to another software to replace one you're constantly arguing with? Free trials are plentiful from most reputable companies. But don't waste your valuable free trial days getting yourself confused and being unproductive.

Here are 10 tips to help you prepare for your new software app research:
  1. Select no more than 2 or 3 products you want to try out.
  2. Try one free trial product download at a time, not all 3 at once.
  3. Do not import your all of your data. Enter 3 of your toughest clients/projects by hand and perhaps make up 3 more with even more challenging scenarios.
  4. Enter actual new sales transactions during your trial so you can put it to the test.
  5. Judge the software based on several factors -
    • Does it have all the features you're looking?
    • Is it easy to pick up, intuitive in its navigation?
    • Does it work and look great on all your devices?
    • Is it an attractive layout that makes it a pleasure to work with?
    • Is there a quick to access help screen that's useful and written clearly?
    • How is the company's customer support?
    • Are there various ways to get your questions answered?
  6. Really set aside time on your calendar to put each product to the test.
  7. Jot down questions and observances you run across as you use it. When you move on to the next one, take note how it compares to the comments you made about the last one.
  8. Run the trial onto the end - you don't know when you'll run into a feature you dislike.
  9. Don't be concerned with others' opinions - you have YOURSELF to satisfy.
  10. Take the trial seriously and be methodical!
Be sure to let me know how it goes. Trialing new software and apps is a big part of what we do at Right Click Advantage. It's challenging and fun at the same time.
