Deadline January 31 - Hudson River Fellowship for Landscape Painters The Grand Central Academy of Art (CGA) in New York City sponsors a Hudson River Fellowship for landscape artists. Each year the winners (approximately 20) get free lodging and instruction for a month of plein air painting. CGA is partnering with the Society to bring the accepted students to Jackson from July 16-August 10. The Society has arranged lodging in Jackson and will provide space for the artists to show their paintings and to meet for lectures and critiques of their work. Thursday, January 19, 7pm Old Church Building 131 Route 10, Piermont Using oral histories, Rebecca Rule recreates the voices of North Country people and uses new and vintage photos to tell the story of logging, the Berlin Mills, and life in the Androscoggin Valley from the beginnings of the logging industry in the 1800s through the boom years and on to the demolition of the stacks in 2007, marking the end of an era. Through the stories of individuals, a picture of a rich culture emerges. Audience members will be invited to share their own stories and discuss the logging and paper industries and the special place north of the notches.
