The Perfect Gift: Give a gift that keeps on giving by keeping arts and culture alive in the North Country. Donate to the Arts Alliance of Northern New Hampshire today on behalf of a friend or family member, and we'll send them a hand-written note on a card created by one of our member artists, letting them know of your gift. What better way to show your affection than to support a cause that benefits friends and neighbors in our beautiful -- and increasingly art-ful -- region? If your holiday shopping is already finished, you can give a donation in honor of your own commitment to sustaining arts and culture in the North Country. See our website for more information.

Promoting, Supporting and Sustaining
Arts, Culture and Heritage in the North Country

The snow is falling and even though we have yet to pass the Solstice, we know winter has arrived here in the North Country. Skiing or sledding anyone? Along with all the outdoor activities this time of year promises, there are plenty of opportunities indoors to enjoy a multitude of cultural and arts offerings, many specifically tied to the holiday season. Check out this bulletin as you make your list and include some time with family and friends sharing all that early winter has to offer. Best wishes for a sparkling holiday season and a wonderful New Year!

Bulletin instructions: If this e-bulletin comes through for you as one long text message, click on the Arts Alliance website at www.aannh.org for the user-friendly version. Choose "Join our e-list" in the left-hand column, then enter your email address. You will receive an email from the Arts Alliance. Click to update your Profile. At the bottom of the Profile page, select HTML format. Save your changes. That should solve the problem and allow you to view the bulletin more easily.

The bulletin, for you and your guests, is arranged by sub-regions from north to south and by date. Please be sure to confirm details and hours prior to attending events or visiting sites. Use our "jump to" function (in the column to the left under the In This Issue section), which allows you to go directly to your geographic areas of interest. You can view our complete ArtsNorth calendar for additional details; a link is available in the Quick Links section.

Please note that Arts Alliance member organizations are indicated with our member icon and a live link to their websites. We appreciate our members, and encourage you to attend their events.

If your organization is presenting a cultural event, email details to us as early as possible at events@aannh.org and we'll include it in our online calendar and our email bulletins. You can simply add events@aannh.org to your press list. Please take the time to review your listing, both in the bulletin and the online calendar, and forward corrections to events@aannh.org. Note: Our bulletin schedule has been revised for the fall and winter. You can find the schedule for deadlines for bulletins at http://docs.google.com/View?docid=dfn3jwsj_9dbbxzpgg.

The submission deadline for the next bulletin,
covering January 6 through February 2, is December 28.

'Tis the Season: We haven't scheduled more Arts Alliance programs this month because our member organizations have planned so many wonderful events and we want you - and us - to be able to attend and enjoy them! Whether your plans include an annual trip to the ballet or holiday concerts, getting the family together for an evening of caroling, or organizing a friends' day out to visit craft fairs and galleries, check out this bulletin to help you schedule your activities during this busy time of year. And, remember -- items made by local artists make perfect gifts!

Become a Part of the Weeks Act Centennial Celebration! Throughout 2011 the Arts Alliance will be working with our members and with partners around the state on collaborative programming celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Weeks Act. This important federal legislation - named after Lancaster native John Wingate Weeks - allowed the Forest Service to purchase private land and turn it into public forest, including the White Mountain National Forest. Among cultural activities being planned to celebrate the Centennial is "Eight Days of Weeks," the White Mountains Cultural Festival. We're hoping arts presenters, libraries, museums and historical societies, conservation and environmental organizations, creative and hospitality businesses as well as schools and educational institutions will all participate in this collaborative effort. Give us a call at 323-7302 or email info@aannh.org if you'd like to learn more about the Weeks Centennial or if you're interested in presenting - or participating in - art and nature programs. If you might be interested in helping to coordinate programming, watch for a job posting on our website!

Winter "Art & Nature" BYOP January 13 in Lancaster: In celebration of the Weeks Centennial, we're kicking off our year of art and nature programming in Lancaster, the birthplace of J. W. Weeks! The evening begins at 6pm at the Lancaster Town Hall, and everyone is invited to attend and share art connected with nature, along with good food and conversation. If you are an artist and still have something left from the holidays to sell, bring it! If you'd just like to show and discuss what you've created, we'd love to see it. And we need an audience, so all are welcome to come and enjoy the informal evening. The potluck is followed at 7pm by the program. There is no admission, though donations are welcome. Drinks will be provided. To register, or for more information, call 323-7302 or email info@aannh.org.

Exhibiting through December 22 at Lamson Library - W.D.'s Midnight Carnival
A collaboration between poet and painter - a collection of 10 poems by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet W.D. Snodgrass, and 10 vibrant etchings by artist DeLoss McGraw. This collaboration began in 1976, when McGraw discovered Snodgrass's poetry. The artist sent the poet a series of mixed-media paintings that incorporated the poet's text into their composition. Snodgrass, in turn, responded with new poems inspired by these images, and thus occurred a melding of media and ideas between the artists, illustrating how the artist and poet inspire each other's work, rather than simply describing it with images and words. Lamson Library and Learning Commons is located on Highland Street in Plymouth. The display is on the main level, and hours are posted at http://library.plymouth.edu/hours.
