Spring Conference for Early Childhood: On Saturday, March 29 Deborah Stuart, our partner in our Arts & Early Learning initiative, will be the keynote speaker at the Spring Conference for Early Childhood: Supporting Quality Early Care & Education, presented by the Northeast Kingdom Early Childhood Spring Conference Collaborative at Lyndon State College, Lyndonville, VT. From Amateur to Professional: Arts Alliance members are being offered a special member rate for “From Amateur to Professional,” a workshop with Vermont painter Susan Abbott Saturday, April 5 from 10 to 5 at the Gallery at WREN, Bethlehem. Read about this valuable seminar for artists at www.wrencommunity.org and call us if you’re interested in taking advantage of WREN's special offer or if you are in need of a partial scholarship. Topics include setting up a studio and schedule, building a resume, taking slides, approaching galleries, organizing a show, creating publicity, and coping with rejection. Through writing and discussion, participants will explore many of the psychological and practical issues for artists who want to make a greater commitment to their work.

If your organization is presenting a cultural event, email details to us as early as possible at events@aannh.org and we'll include it in the online ArtsNorth calendar and in our email bulletins. You can simply add events@aannh.org to your press list.
Our e-bulletins cover three weeks at a time during the spring. Submission deadline for the next bulletin, covering April 17-May 7, is April 10.

Awkwaaba Traditional African Dance & Drum Ensemble Performs Friday, March 28 at Kennett High School, North Conway: Young and old are invited to an exciting evening of traditional African dance and drumming at 7pm on Friday, March 28. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students, $20 for families, and are available at the door or by calling the KHS Music Office at 356-4360. The performance by this troupe of Ghanaian musicians and dancers is presented by the KHS Performing Arts Department and the Arts Alliance as part of a series of World Cultures programs that also include assemblies and student workshops. All proceeds benefit the KHS Music Program.

Rediscovering Afghanistan: Lessons from the Home at the Littleton Public Library, 92 Main Street on Saturday, March 29, 1:30pm: Using still and film images, historical sources, material artifacts, ethnography, geopolitical data and personal anecdotes, presenters Jennifer Fluri and Rachel Lehr share insights garnered from their extensive experiences of both rural and urban Afghan homes and communities. Presented by the Arts Alliance and funded by the NH Humanities Council, this program is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Mary Daly at 444-3959.

"Extending the Dance Map" Trainings for Dancers continue March 29/30 in Vermont, April 4 in New Hampshire: Dancers interested in working in schools and educators interested in incorporating movement and dance in their classrooms are invited to attend the conclusion of Vermont's training at the Lyndon Institute, Lyndon Center, Vermont, March 29 & 30, or upcoming New Hampshire sessions April 4 and 14 and May 16. Oral History Workshop RESCHEDULED to Thursday, April 3, 9am-4pm, Lancaster Town Hall: All those interested in oral history are invited to an all-day training workshop with folklorist, oral historian and storyteller Jo Radner. Topics include: strategies for asking effective questions; following promising leads and triggering memories; crucial steps after interviewing; legal issues; and finding volunteer interviewers. The workshop is presented by the Arts Alliance, the NH Heritage Project and the Monadnock Institute of Nature, Place and Culture, and funded by the Center for the Humanities at UNH through a grant from the NH Humanities Council. International Musical Arts Institute's Northward Bound Spring Series starts another season of world-class chamber music with a concert at St. Kieran Community Center for the Arts on Sunday afternoon, April 6. Please see details in Berlin/Gorham section.

NH Poet Laureate Comes to Lancaster Monday, April 14, 7pm: Join us for an evening of poetry with New Hampshire Poet Laureate Pat Fargnoli as part of the national celebration of Poetry Month. Pat will give a reading, free and open to the public, at 7pm at Weeks Memorial Library in Lancaster, and will join us for a networking meeting for North Country language arts and humanities teachers at all grade levels. This is the first program in our new partnership with the NH Humanities Council, which has invited the Alliance to develop a pilot series of professional development offerings for North Country educators. New Hampshire Preservation Alliance's Preserving Community Character Conference, Friday & Saturday, April 11-12: We're pleased to be an organizational partner in this year's statewide preservation conference at Plymouth State University. Attendees will learn about the links between sustainability, economy and historic preservation; saving community landmarks; best practices for managing growth and change; partnerships for protecting natural and historic resources; managing public history projects; crafting communication and fundraising strategies; and much more. For educators, preservation professionals and volunteers, town officials, and all those who care about preserving our landscape and historic structures. Celebrate the Week of the Young Child April 13-19: We're working in collaboration with the Child Care Resource & Referral Network, the Conway Public Library, UNH Cooperative Extension Service, Mt. Washington Children's Museum and our members throughout the Mt. Washington Valley to celebrate the Week of the Young Child April 13-19. Local preschools and kindergartens are invited to contact us to schedule artist visits with eco-artist Cynthia Robinson and musician Deborah Stuart. Middle Eastern Music & Dance in Lisbon: Stay tuned for details about a very special concert featuring 35th Parallel and Alia Thabit. The program will take place Friday evening, April 18 at the Lisbon Town Hall.
