Quilt Show/Call to Quilters - Regional quilters invited to participate in Alumni Hall's annual Exhibit & Sale. Quilts of all sizes and techniques welcome. Delivery deadline September 20. The show will exhibit handmade antique and modern pieces made by quilters from throughout the region, and include bed quilts, wall quilts, crib quilts and miniatures. Exhibitions range from traditional shows to contemporary trends. Displaying through October 27 - Enchanted Garden: Enamels by an American Master, Works by Karl Drerup (1904-2000). This exhibit celebrates the art and legacy of Karl Drerup -- artist, craftsman, mentor and Plymouth Teachers College teacher -- by returning the work of this American master to public view. The exhibition focuses on the jewel-like painted enamels that brought national attention to Drerup at mid-20th century. In his small studio, Drerup created an Enchanted Garden in the imaginative imagery of his enamel plaques, bowls and trays. trays. At Lamson Library: Kurt Brian Webb: War - Dance of Death in Black, White and Blood Red All Over Woodcuts create social commentary that provokes the viewer through humor, satire and cynicism. Kurt's Dance of Death series uses images of soldiers unknowingly intermingling with malevolent skeletal figures. Each two-color print is superimposed over a contemporary news story relating to death and the war in Iraq. A Tour of the Notches: White Mountain Art, History and Nature Thursday, October 4, 6 to 7:30pm Heritage Commons, PSU (603) 535-3275 Bob Cottrell of the Remick Country Doctor Museum and Farm in Tamworth presents this program sponsored by PSU's Center for Rural Partnerships in collaboration with the Arts Alliance. Bob will follow the routes into the White Mountains used by hundreds of artists over the past two centuries, and look at the history and nature behind the art, the geological formations that attracted the artists (waterfalls, flora and fauna), the tools and techniques they used in their paintings, drawings and prints, and the history they captured in their work such as farm and village life, fences, bridges, and livestock.
