Help wanted! AANNH Has Two AMERICORPS*VISTA Openings Central to AANNH's mission is the idea of collaboration and volunteerism. In 2007 we will be focusing on a formal expansion of our volunteer base, making it possible to involve youth and adult community members in supporting and presenting our many programs, services and events. In order to accomplish this goal, AANNH is looking to fill two VISTA positions: Youth Arts Corps Coordinator and Community Arts Corps Coordinator. Integrated Arts Conference January 27: Register now for the 12th Annual PSU College of Graduate Studies' Integrated Arts Conference Saturday, January 27, at Silver Center, Plymouth State University. The conference will explore themes and ideas found in Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Workshops will focus on literature, visual arts, theater, puppetry and arts integration. The conference includes a performance by TIGER Theatre; participants will also get tickets to this year's Educational Theatre Collaborative performance. The public is invited to New England and Afghanistan: Building Paths of Understanding and Collaboration Across Borders, a two-day conference at Dartmouth College Saturday, January 27 and Sunday, January 28. Topics include The Afghan Women Judges Education Project; Education and Educators in Afghanistan; Creating Compassionate Learning Environments; and International Development Works. New Series of Artist Entrepreneural Workshops: NHSCA is pleased to offer its third series of free workshops for professional NH artists seeking to enhance their business skills, promote their work and network with other artists. 2007 Governors Arts Awards Call for Nominations: NHSCA is accepting nominations for the 2007 Governors Arts Awards. The awards recognize outstanding contributions to the excellence, growth, support and availability of the arts in New Hampshire. Postmark deadline is April 20, 2007 . New Hampshire Inspired: A New Hampshire Collection, from January 18 through February 23 at the NH State Library, features artworks by New Hampshire artists who have been designated Lifetime Fellows by NHSCA. Four newly-acquired artworks in the exhibition will become part of the State Arts Council's Arts Bank collection and will find homes with state agencies through the "Adopt an Artwork" application process. Any state agency that occupies a state-owned building may apply.

NH Center for Nonprofits News

Nonprofit staff and board members are invited to True Collaboration: How Work Really Gets Done in Communities on Wednesday January 17 from 12noon to 5pm. (lunch included) at the McConnell Center in Dover. This seminar with Joseph "Jay" Connor, founder of The Collaboratory for Community Support, will address internationally-recognized best practices for collaboration, exploring the art of intentional collaboration, a process which brings partners to successful community-based solutions. The fee is $50 for NHCN Members and $75 for not-yet-members; if two or more people from the same organization attend the fee is $40 per member, $65 for not-yet-member.

Also coming up this month, a seminar on Property Taxation and the Impact to NH Nonprofits from 9am to 12noon on Monday, January 22 at the Local Government Center in Concord and a Staying Legal seminar with the Attorney General's Office and the Department of Labor on January 24 in Derry. NH Business Committee for the Arts 2007 Awards

Nominations are due Friday, February 2, for the 2007 Business in the Arts Awards, sponsored by the NH Business Committee for the Arts to recognize and honor businesses and a business leader that have had significant impact on the state's cultural environment. A basic bread baking workshop in which participants learn how to make the dough and put together a loaf to bake. The League of NH Craftsmen is sponsoring two printmaking workshops with Dover artist William Mitchell. Mitchell will guide adults and children in exploring several printmaking techniques. “Silkscreen Basics” for adults will run from 10:30am-12:30pm, and “Monoprints for Families & Children” (ages 6 and up) will be held from 1:30-2:30 pm.
Fees are $20 for the adult class, and $5 per child for the children’s class. Parents may attend with their children at no charge, and the fees include all materials. Registration is necessary for both workshops.

Saturdays, beginning January 13 (for five weeks), 11am-2pm - Adult watercolor, painting and drawing classes. Open to people of all abilities, the classes will be kept small to ensure each student has the opportunity for one-on-one instruction. Fees for the class are $150 plus materials. Call to register.
Sundays, beginning January 14 (for five weeks), 10am-12noon - Drawing and watercolor classes for students. Classes will be free of charge, however pre-registration is required as space is limited. Students in grades 8-12 wishing to be considered for the adult classes should request a scholarship application as monies are available through the Ammonoosuc Region Arts Council. Please pick up an application for scholarship at The ARTS Gallery or visit our website.
Other classes being offered in the near future include drawing with colored pencils, paper-crafting and scrap-booking, fiber crafts and knitting. If you have a particular interest or would like to offer a class please contact the ARTS Gallery.

Eastern Inspirations - The Influence of the North East on American Skiing. This exhibit at the New England Ski Museum will focus on northeastern organizations and people who spread aspects of alpine skiing across the United States and the story of their nationwide influence on the sport of skiing. Alumni Hall's Arts for Youth at Alumni Hall program (AYAH) is scheduled to begin next February. Two workshops - African Drumming & Dance and Introduction to Filmmaking – will be open to students and youth in the region from 12-18 years of age. Depending on the workshop, participants will study music, drumming, film-making, drawing, writing, costume-making under the tutelage of 2 professional artists, and participate in a public perform¬ance and film-showing to display their accomplishments in these classes.
Enrollment Applications must be received by Alumni Hall by January 19, 2007. Tuition for each workshop is $50 A limited number of scholarships are available. If a youth has funding needs, he or she should notify Alumni Hall as soon as possible, and no later than January 12. Interested students should contact their teachers or guidance counselors for more information and registration forms. Youth not in school may contact Alumni Hall directly.

This Oral History Lecture Series program will be an evening of reminiscences by the people of Sandwich. The program will be an open forum for all to share local history and speak about the people who helped shape it. The discussion will be moderated by David Chase. The “Faces of Sandwich” exhibit will be on hand for viewing. Snow date for this program is January 16, 7pm.

Ashland resident and Mt. Everest climber Jim Gagne began his climbing career in the White Mountains of New Hampshire more than 20 years ago. Hiking soon led to technical rock and ice climbing and eventually to mountaineering around the world. On May 24, 2006, Gagne fulfilled a lifelong dream and became the first New Hampshire native to climb The Seven Summits and Mount Everest. His talk, sponsored by the HCS PTA, is open to the community and admission is by donation.
