Sat Nam!

I knew the season had changed when the wind picked up and the snow started to sputter the other day.  It seems as if the sky got very heavy above my head.  During this time I pretty much just want to crawl under the covers and not come out 'til spring.  But, living and working in this world, and especially Minnesota, keeps me from doing just that.  So I have to take care of myself the best I know how.

In this guide I will share with you all the things I do to keep me from staying under the covers when it's blustery outside.  But, saying that, I also want to persuade you to rest as much as possible this season.  This is the time of year that we very naturally slow down.  The world has become a very busy place.  We are bombarded with information that our bodies and brains try to process throughout the day.  Take a break from the media frenzy for even a day and see how restful the stillness is.

I hope you enjoy this guide and share it with others.

Adrenal Fatigue & Hypoglycemia
How The Two Are Interlinked

I had been experiencing extreme fatigue for several months and not really knowing what to do about it.  I was meditating one night and a guide came in and told me that what I was experiencing was extreme adrenal fatigue.  The next morning I got up and started researching the symptoms of adrenal fatigue.  I had 90% of the symptoms listed in the information.  One of the factors in adrenal fatigue is hypoglycemia or low blood sugar.  When your blood sugar drops due to improper diet it puts a great deal of stress on the adrenal glands.

One of the main factors in keeping blood sugar stable is eating high protein meals with a quality carbohydrate several times a day.  I currently eat 5 times a day to keep my blood sugar balanced.

Over the past few months I have had much stress in my life (another factor in adrenal fatigue).  That combined with not eating properly created the extreme adrenal fatigue.

As soon as I let go of some of the things that were not working in my life as well as eating a proper diet for me the fatigue shifted.

Symptoms of Adrenal Fatigue
  • Fatigue
  • Feeling tired despite sufficient hours of sleep
  • Insomnia
  • Weight gain
  • Depression
  • Hair loss
  • Acne
  • Reliance on stimulants like caffeine
  • Cravings for carbohydrates or sugars
  • Poor immune function
  • Intolerance to cold
Symptoms of Hypoglycemia
  • trembling
  • extreme hunger
  • blurred vision
  • anxiety
  • irritabilty
  • confusion
  • headache
  • sweating
I encourage you to do your own research to see if any of this fits for you.  I recommend reading  Adrenal Fagigue:  The 21st Century Stress Syndrome.  The suggestions in the book helped me to recover my energy very quickly.

*Sugar is an enormous stressor on the adrenals.  I recommend cutting it out of the diet as much as possible.

Rescue Remedy
Natural Stress Relief

tea cupI use this when I'm feeling stressed.  It helps to calm me down and balance my nervous system.  I especially use it when I'm feeling that extreme adrenal fatigue that seems to be plaguing many of us due to the change of the seasons.  You can pick it up at any health food store.  Read more about rescue remedy on line at:

Detox Bath
Apple Cider Vinegar

When I start to feel toxic or fatigued I fill a tub with as much hot water as I can stand.  Put in 2 cups of apple cider vinegar then soak in the tub about 20 minutes.  The apple cider vinegar will make you sweat out the toxins and is great for shifting your energy.  Your skin looks gorgeous afterwards!

I use a generic brand for my bath.
Apple Cider Vinegar
A Multi-Purpose Supplement

I recently started taking a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar in 8 oz. of water in the morning.  The reason I take it is to balance the ph in my body as well as to jumpstart my metabolism.  I've noticed a shift in my weight since I've started using it.  I use organic apple cider vinegar for internal use.

Check out this website for the many other reasons to take apple cider vinegar.

High Protein Nut Balls
Yummy No Sugar Treat

I came up with this recipe in my search for a high protein snack without sugar.  I wasn't able to find one on the market so I experimented wih a recipe of my own.

3 Tbs.  Almond butter
2 Tbs.  Peanut butter
1 scoop unsweeted whey powder
1/4 tsp.  vanilla
1/4 tsp.  cinnamon
2 tsp.  sesame seeds
1 tsp.  flax seed (unground)
2 Tbs. unsweetened carob chips
2 Tbs.  chopped pecans
1 Tbs. sunflower seeds
1 Tbs. veggie glycerin*

Mix all ingredients together and form into 1" diameter balls.  If mixture is too sticky add more whey powder.  If mixture is too dry add water or soy milk to moisten.  Store in refrigerator.

I recommend eating only one or two of these per day as they are high in fat and calories.  This snack has stopped a low blood sugar attack in its track.

*Vegetable glycerin is derived from coconut oil.  It is used in food, beauty products and many items that we use on a daily basis.  It has no carbohydrates and no cholesterol.  It is very sweet so 1/4 cup = 1 cup other sweeteners.  Vegetable glycerin can be found at your health food store.
