Curious MillennialI feel so smart!

For almost four years we've been saying that in the emerging workforce, coaching skills will be the most important tools for leaders of the future. In fact, Greystone Guides offered our first Coaching Tools for Leaders training in February 2004. The Coaching Tools for Leaders course has had the same purpose from the beginning—to put professional coaching tools in the hands of non-coaches, managers, supervisors, and leaders.

We have been saying it and acting on it since 2004, and it turns out we were right! The future of coaching is here, and it’s not that everyone has a coach. It’s that everyone is a coach.

Last Sunday on 60 Minutes, the experts agreed! (Watch the video.) When dealing with the new workforce, called the Millennials, the manager must focus on "coaching rather than bossing." The story also emphasized that these workers are vastly different from even the generation before them. They need—no, they demand—a different work environment that has a certain quality to it.

“If you are a leader and want to be more successful in the future, the answer is simple. Learn to coach.”
—Joe B.
Technical Manager, Specialty Chemical Company

We addressed this very issue in January 2007 in the article “What’s wrong with these kids today?”. Read the article for some practical, simple tips to help you deal with the Millennials. In October 2007, Mattison published a white paper on the vital role of coaching in achieving superperformance. Click here for a free download of Coaching for Curiosity.

As this newsletter is being published, there are more than 1,500 job openings just in the Houston area that require the candidate to have coaching skills, according to Indeed.com.

Who’s teaching all those people to coach? We are. In the last four years, we’ve trained hundreds of non-coaches—managers, entrepreneurs, supervisors, even CEOs—to use a robust yet simple set of coaching tools to stop bossing and start coaching. In conjunction with the University of Houston Executive Coaching Institute, we offer public and customized in-house training, specifically and carefully designed to help you stop bossing and start coaching.

Greystone Guides also offers trainings in all applications of professional coaching: through our programs, you can find a coach, become a coach, or learn to coach. If you are curious about having a coach, learning coaching skills, or becoming a professional coach, contact us for a complimentary consultation.

New for 2008:
Business Strategy for Women Series

Women have many strengths that serve them in business: A cooperative nature, an understanding of the value of community, the ability to think in a web.

Often what is missing from the equation is strategic thinking. In 2008, we’ll offer a series of classes, workshops, and teleclasses that will address the question, How I do I keep my business or career authentic and add powerful strategic plans that leverage my strengths?

Coaching Tools for
Leaders: The UH
Executive Coaching Institute

Coaching skills are the emerging force behind the next generation of successful leaders.

Coaching provides a powerful framework to transform a leader's valuable knowledge and skills into focused relationships that respect people at the deepest level. Leaders with truly effective coaching skills achieve significantly better results. Employees produce better work, stay longer, and contribute more to the organization in many other ways.

Coaching Tools for Leaders: The UH Executive Coaching Institute offers motivated, results-driven professionals the tools to achieve and sustain excellence. Coaching Tools Fundamentals, the core of the 60-hour certificate program, introduces and activates professional coaching tools that are must-haves for high-performing leaders. Other workshops offered throughout the year build on the foundational training with hands-on, practical learning that will lead to improved interactions and outcomes.

For more information, visit our web site or download the Executive Coaching Institute brochure in PDF format.
