Strange Parallel
The Kingdom Parables and the Churches

The parallel between the seven kingdom parables of Mathew 13 and the seven churches of Revelation chapters 2 and 3 is well known. Not only do futurist and historicist expositors see it but it is commonly understood by bible students in general.

The correspondence between the two sets of figurative language can be seen clearly in all but the second and fifth kingdom parable. We will look at the other five.

Brief Comparison of the Parables to the Churches
The links provide sites with excellent commentary
1. The Parable of the Sower who casts good seed into the earth is a type of the apostles who preached the pure gospel in the Ephesus church age. Only a remnant of the seed bore fruit. The rest fell on rocky soil or were choked by tares.

3. The Parable of the Mustard Seed which grows into an unnatural tree parallels the Pergamos church age. The pure persecuted church becomes the state religion and evil birds come to rest in its Papal branches.

4. The Parable of the Leaven and the Thyatira church age parallel. In each a woman is the central character. Jezebel secretly introduced the leaven of false doctrine and thus represents the false church system of the dark ages.

6. The Parable of the Pearl and the Philadelphia church age parallel. The open door represents the missions outreach of the Victorian age when the gospel was preached all over the world.

7. The Parable of the Dragnet and the Laodicean church age parallel. The good fish are gathered but the bad are cast away. Christ warns the Laodicean's that they are lukewarm and blind and like the bad fish will be cast out .
