The Sixth Trumpet
The Ottoman Turks from the Euphrates
And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them
that sat on them, having breastplates of
fire, and of
jacinth, and brimstone. Rev. 9:17
- Fire = Red
- Jacinth = Blue
- Sulpher = Yellow
The armies of the Ottoman Turks from their inception
to the 19th century wore uniforms of red, blue and
yellow. These colors have a double level of
significance in this prophecy.
The Ottoman Empire
Known as the Gunpowder Empire
The heads of the horses were as the heads of lions;
and out of their mouths issued fire and
smoke and
brimstone. Rev 9:17
- Fire = Red
- Smoke = Blue
- Brimstone = Yellow
The Ottoman Empire is known in history as
the
gunpowder empire. They introduced the
cannon
and gunpowder, a revolution in military tactics which
enabled them to break the walls of Constantinople.
Gunpowder uses yellowish sulpher. Their cannons
were in
the shapes of lions heads with their mouths open
which was a graphic fulfillment of prophecy.
Sixth Trumpet Understood for 600 Years
Hour, Day Month Year Time Period Still Fascinates
The Arab golden age was followed by the
Turkish Empire. The Arabs conquered one
third of the Roman Empire and the Turks
conquered the final third.
The Turks threatened Christian
Europe in the 14th and 15th centuries. This
verse
was applied to them well before the Reformation.
Therefore historicists have never had another
interpretation for this symbol.
Protestant prophecy expositors have long been
fascinated with the hour, day, month, year
prophecy
of Revelation 9:15.
- Hour = 15 days
- Day = 1 year
- Month = 30 years
- Year = 360 or 365 years
- Total = 391 or 396 years + 15 days
Multiple Fulfillments to the 391 Years
A Sliding Scale of Start and End Dates
The sixth trumpet was the focus of attention for
prophecy students from the 18th century until the
Advent movement in 1844. Each event in the
gradual
decline of the Ottoman
Empire seemed to have a significant starting date
391 years earlier. It is like a sliding scale of
fulfillments with the
most dramatic fulfillment in 1844. (See Trumpet Notes)
The siege of Constantinople, the capital of the
Byzantine Empire and one of the most heavily
fortified
cities in the world, took place in 1453. Add
391 years
and you get 1844 which is one of the most
important
terminal dates in Bible prophecy.
