Greetings!
Wow! What an incredible fall we are having. Take advantage of this beautiful fall weather and get all of those projects done.
It's a great time to plant! Don't put that shovel away yet, the planting season is just beginning. If you want bigger, stronger plants, that require less maintenance, then you want to plant in the fall! The days are warm and the nights are cool. The cooler weather of fall creates a perfect opportunity for young plants to establish in a low stress environment.
It's still too early to winterize roses; wait until the soil has cooled. Winterizing them now will trap warmth in the soil, preventing them from going dormant and causing winter damage. Don't miss the ISU Alumni Homecoming Kick-Off Event and the Greater Pocatello Chamber After Hours at Pinehurst, Thursday, September 27th from 5pm to 8pm. This fun event is open to the public and there is no charge. If you haven't already signed up to enter a scarecrow in the Scarecrow Auction, call Pennie at 237-6522 today.
Our staff is here to answer any of your gardening questions and help you find solutions to your floral and gardening needs.
Happy fall gardening,

Be Aware, It's Mating Season for the Venomous Hobo
The Hobo Spider is a large brown spider (up to 1 inch across) that has a chevron pattern on the abdomen. It can run across the floor at about 15-20 inches per second. They make a funnel shaped web, found in basements, crawl spaces, wood piles, rock beds, retaining walls and debris around structures. Hobos can have a three year life cycle.
Human encounters are most likely in late summer and fall, during the spider's mating season. Most bites occur when the spider gets into bedding or clothing and is trapped next to the skin. The bite forms blisters in 15 to 35 hours. The bite is NOT considered to be fatal, but if you think you have been bitten by a Hobo, it is advised to seek medical attention. In about 50% of Hobo bites, nothing happens, because no venom is injected.
Control of this aggressive spider includes a good cleaning behind furniture and appliances, corners and crevices. If you see a hobo, swat it with a fly swatter or rolled newspaper and crush it.
It may be necessary to use an insecticide around the perimeter of your home. We recommend Hi-Yield 38 Plus. Traps can be folded and placed behind or under furniture. Hi-Yield D.I.Y. spray is available for use inside along baseboards and in basements.
