Yellow Leaves?
Applying chelated iron is the best solution and lasts the longest for treating iron deficiency in plants. Not all chelated iron is the same. EDDHA Iron Chelate 6.0% is the iron we have found to be most effective for treating iron deficiency in plants in our high alkaline soil.

Greetings!
I hope you are enjoying your August. Hopefully you are picking all kinds of great produce from your garden and enjoying your flowers and landscaping.
Driving around town I have noticed weeds that are tall and going to seed. If we all make an effort to keep them under control it will make our city a better place to live.
Wally and I were able the spend last week in Chicago at the Independent Garden Center Show. It is a great opportunity to attend educational seminars and there is a huge trade fair that features the latest and best products for garden centers. It's very informative and fun. I must also mention, we have a very cute 2 year old grandson that just happens to live there and we got to visit while we were there.
Chicago is a very beautiful city. It is a great example of how trees, plants, and flowers make a huge difference in the appearance of the places we live. Just because a lot of people live in high rises, in the heart of a city, they don't give up gardening. They plant on balconies, entrances, and roof tops. Other than the high humidity there, their climate is very similar to ours.
Our own Pocatello Old Town is also really looking good. The hanging baskets are beautiful and the trees look great. Just imagine if our whole city had that same look.

Highlights from the Independent Garden Center Show
Wally and I attended many interesting seminars that focused on gardening and running a garden center. One that was very interesting and informative was:
Rick Bayless, Celebrity Chef
Frontera Grill and PBS Television
He is a master in using small spaces to produce a lot of fresh vegetables and herbs. In fact, Grow Your Own is a central focus in all of his high-profile ventures. His PBS television series, Mexico - One Plate at a Time, now is in its fifth season. It is filmed in his home kitchen and organic edible garden, which spans three city lots in Chicago's Bucktown neighborhood, In the pages of his best-selling cookbooks, Rick extols the virtues of homegrown flavor foodies that you won't find at the grocery store.
Rick brought his passion for Grow Your Own to IGC 2012, celebrating consumer demand for edible gardening.
Fresh flavor from the garden is a key ingredient to the worldwide success of this year's IGC Spotlight Keynote speaker, Celebrity Chef Rick Bayless. The award-winning chef-restaurateur, cookbook author and TV personality harvests organic herbs, vegetables and other edibles from his home garden for the authentic Mexican dishes served at his acclaimed Chicago restaurants, Topolobampo and Frontera Grill.

Attract Butterflies and Hummingbirds with Colorful Plants
The New Lo & Behold varieties of butterfly bushes give you a variety of uses from just one plant. You can use it as a fragrant flowering shrub, a colorful groundcover, or a plant to attract butterflies and hummingbirds.

Lo & Behold Purple Haze Butterfly Bush
This exciting new plant is completely smothered with deep-purple blooms from summer til fall. These blossoms are long and feathery, and fall down and away from the main plant, creating a brilliant display of rich color. Imagine each plant resembling an exploding firework on the 4th of July, with streaks of purple radiating outward and downward from the center.
Best of all, the Purple Haze attracts butterflies by the dozens, adding another dimension of color and splendor to the garden!
This shrub grows only 2-3 feet high, and is perfect for any size garden. The Purple Haze works well grouped in clusters between larger plants or in rows as a garden border.
This shrub is very low maintenance. It loves full sun and is very drought tolerant.
Lo and Behold Bluechip Butterfly Bush
This shrub grows only 2-3 ft. tall, and its compact form allows it to be planted in any size garden, even in a container on your backyard patio.
The Blue Chip can be clustered around the base of larger plants, or when planted in rows, it makes a terrific border for the garden, driveway, or walkway. It will keep its compact shape, and won't spread and overwhelm the rest of the garden.
It has grey-green foliage, and it blossoms with beautiful purplish-blue blooms. No pruning is needed, and there is no need to "deadhead" old blossoms. New blooms will continuously appear from mid-summer through fall.
This shrub is very low maintenance. It loves full sun and is very heat, and once established, drought tolerant.
