It's Father's Day Weekend, and if you're looking for a great gift for Dad, don't forget things for the garden.
Dads love things to make gardening easier. Choose from a new tank sprayer, really cool hose end sprayer, pruners, and a new pair of gloves. A gardening bench may be just what he needs to make his gardening easier. Your Dad may love to grow shrubs, flowers and vegetables. A shade tree is a really good choice. Great perennials you'll want for your garden.
These are three of our great perennials. Heucheras add unusual color to your planting beds, veronicas are easy to grow and bloom all summer, and perennial geraniums are a cheery low growing plant that also blooms all summer.
 This small heuchera variety has dark purple leaves and purple undersides. Leaves have shapely ruffled upfacing edges. It has a nicely mounded habit with white pink flowers appearing in early summer.
Heuchera prefers sun to partial shade and well-drained, alkaline, organic soil. Dryer soil conditions encourage contrast in the red edge. Cut old foliage away in spring. It is hardy to zone 4.
Lavender Plume Veronica 
This unique multi-flowering veronica has strong dark green foliage. The compact, well-branched plants have clusters of blue-lavender flowers topping the stems. It blooms June through August. It reaches 20" high and spreads 14". Plant in full sun and moist, well-drained soil.
Try planting this delightful plant in a perennial boarder. It is hardy to Zone 4 (-30) and grows in sun to filtered shade.
Sweet Heidy Hardy Geranium
 A summer-long riot of color is provided by masses of pink flowers with fused blue edges, distinct white centers and dramatic dark veins. This plant has a part-trailing habit.
This perennial geranium prefers sun to part-shade and moist, well-drained soil. It is an easy-to-grow, trouble free plant.
It is hardy to Zone 4 (-30) and blooms May thru September.
