Greetings!
Young costume parade winner

It's Father's Day Weekend, and if you're looking for a great gift for Dad, don't forget things for the garden.

Dads love things to make gardening easier. Choose from a new tank sprayer, really cool hose end sprayer, pruners, and a new pair of gloves.  Your Dad may love to grow shrubs, flowers and vegetables.  A shade tree is a really good choice.  For your Dad's sweet tooth, choose a fun candy bouquet from the flower shop,  If you can't decide, a gift certificate is always a great idea.

All you ladies, be sure to call your girlfriends and plan to attend Ladies Night, June 23rd from 6 pm to 8 pm.

Happy Gardening,
Vicky

Great perennials you'll want for your garden.

These are three of our great perennials.  Brunnera brightens the deep shade, long blooming Aubrieta is fabulous in the early spring, and Saponaria starts blooming just as the Aubrieta stops blooming.

Brunnera

Brunnera "Jack Frost"

Brunneras are classic perennials that are treasured for their shade tolerance and lovely blooms. Their heart-shaped leaves and Forget-me-not flowers brighten shady areas.  They bloom April thru May.  They are very hardy to Zone 3 (-40) and grow in deep to filtered shade.

After they bloom, cut back the spent blooms to tidy up the plants appearance.  They make a fantastic groundcover, spreading slowly by rhizomes.

Aubrieta

AubrietaA perennial favorite, Aubrieta has long been treasured for its delightful spring show of brightly colored flowers. The evergreen leaves form low mats of foliage which should be trimmed back after flowering to maintain a compact form.

Try planting this delightful spring treasure between stepping stones, along pathways, or in the crevices of stone walls.  It is hardy to Zone 4 (-30) and grows is sun to filtered shade.

Saponaria

Saponaria

Blooms profusely in May thru June, Saponaria is excellent in rock gardens, spilling over walls, or on the edges of a border.  It's called Soapwort because crushing the leaves in water will form a lather that once was used as a soap.  It thrives in full sun (5-6 hours of sun) and will re-seed and spread. It is hardy to Zone 3 (-40) and blooms May thru June.

Visit the landscape solution center at Pinehurst and let the garden experts help you get a beautiful perennial garden.
