Greetings!
It's an unusual spring, to say the least! How many years have we been able to use the yellow forsythia branches, which usually bloom real early in the spring, in our Memorial Day floral bouquets?
The cool, wet spring we have had does have a silver lining. It may make us frustrated, but it is really the ideal planting weather for trees, shrubs, fruit trees, perennials, and hardy annuals.
If you haven't already, fertilize all of your trees and shrubs with a slow release fertilizer, such as Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Food.
The secret to a great vegetable garden is great soil. Make sure your vegetable beds are ready for spring planting by adding organic material, such as Cotton Bur Compost and soil pep to keep your clay soil loose and your sandy soil moist. Apply soil activator to feed the soil, improve seed germination and increase the vitiman content of your vegetables. If you use manures it is best to add it in the fall and till it in. We often see burning when manure is added in the spring.
I hope to see you at FREE Potting Days!
Happy Gardening,

Did you miss your first opportunity to have us do all the work for you? If you did, we are repeating . . .
Free Potting Days!
Beautiful planters start with good potting soil, proper fertilizer, great plants, and having them professionally designed and planted just for you. It's important to consider the growing needs of plants when you plant them together in a planter. Do they want to grow in the sun or shade? How will they look together as they grow? Will the colors and plants compliment each other? The staff at Pinehurst can help you find the answers to these or any questions you may have. During the repeat of our annual potting days, you can bring your empty pots to Pinehurst, pick out the plants from our huge selection of flowers, vegetable and herbs, and our professional staff will plant and fertilize them for you. You can watch them at work or take the opportunity for a relaxing stroll through the breath-taking nursery displays. You pay only for the soil and plants you choose. You take your planted pots home and we clean up the mess.

Have you seen the NEW Black Velvet and Pinstripe Petunias?
These are not your Grandmother's petunias!
The new developments in petunias are amazing. Super Petunias are self-cleaning, meaning you don't have to remove the dead blossoms to keep them blooming, and they are heat tolerant. They are tough, vigorous plants that bloom all summer. They are unbeatable in planters, hanging baskets, as well as in planting beds. And of course the colors are fabulous.
Black Velvet is the world's only black petunia. Pinstripe show off a black base color with a distinctive yellow star pattern.
Both plants have a mounding rather then a spreading habit.

Pretty Much Picasso was introduced last year. It has a deep violet throat and softer violet petal surrounded by a chartreuse edge.
While your at Pinehurst, check out what else is new. Calibrachoa is another super plant for hanging baskets and container gardening. They look like a tiny petunia, but they're a plant all their own. They are easy to grow, bloom all summer, and come in vibrant, unique colors.
Coralberry and Blackberry Punch are new this year.
