The trees and shrubs in our area are very slow to come out of dormancy this spring, they like us, are not crazy about the weather.  This must be the case in much of the northern U.S.  We have received shipments of plants from Oregon and Minnesota that have arrived with the plants just as dormant as the plants we have wintered over in our nursery. This is very unusual, they are usually weeks ahead of us.

Although the temperatures are not what we prefer for working in the yard, it's a great time to plant trees, shrubs, hardy vegetables, pansies, and perennials.  Planters close to the house may be protected from the frosts with a little protection.  I think there are a few garage interiors around that are really beautiful right now, awaiting the arrival of warm weather.
