Greetings!
What a spring we have had. Every time I look at the extended forecast it is going to be really nice next week, only to change when it is next week. It's been like a carrot dangling in front of our gardening noses. With the night temperatures staying high, it is safe to plant. It would be nice if the day temperatures would be warmer for the planter. You still have plenty of time to plant vegetables and annuals, and it's a perfect time to plant perennials, fruit trees, flowering trees, shade trees, and shrubs.
Springs like this give us a love for spring blooming plants such as peonies, lilacs, and spring blooming perennial groundcovers. They have been in bloom for a long time! Now is a great time to plant them so you can enjoy the beautiful display of color next spring.
The new Supertunia Yellow Citrus has been very popular this spring. I am happy to say we have it back in stock.
All you ladies, be sure to grab your girlfriends and attend Ladies Night, June 24th from 6 pm to 8 pm. There is no prettier or more relaxing place to spend an evening than in the serene setting of the nursery and greenhouses. It's a very fun evening and all the proceeds go to a very worthy cause.
Get out and get some gardening therapy this weekend. It's great for your body, mind, and soul. Add color to your life.
Happy gardening,

Gardening Questions
Is there anything that will keep deer from eating my trees and shrubs?
The first step in keeping your trees and shrubs from being devoured by deer is to plant plants that are deer resistant. There are lots of trees and shrubs we can grow in our climate that are deer resistant. When it comes to flowers and vegetables the selection is not as good. Remember deer will eat anything if they get hungry enough. We are carrying Sweeney's All Season Weatherproof Deer Repellent in our garden center. It uses dried blood to repel them. Cindy, an employee who lives in deer country, has tested it and has had good luck. It is safe for vegetable gardens and is odorless to humans. It comes in a package of 6 units and stakes and sells for $23.99.
What is the difference in petunias? I used to by them in a 4-pack and they were more inexpensive than the larger individual plants I find now.
The petunias you have bought in the past that are grown in a 4 or 6-pack are old fashioned grandiflora petunias. They spread about 8-10" and come in a few basic colors. The new varieties, called supertunias, have been developed to perform better in pots and in the ground. They grow much more vigorous, spreading 1 to 3 feet and are available in a lot more colors. The biggest difference is they don't have to be dead headed. They shed their old blossoms, so they always look great. Wave Petunias are similar to Supertunias. The difference is Supertunias are grown from a cutting and Wave Petunias are grown from seed. The Supertunias come in a much wider range of colors and growth habits. All petunias are heavy feeders so fertilize them often.
