| Greetings!
Wow, now that spring has finally arrived, it is great!
I am very lucky to have the opportunity to visit many customers at their homes. We talk one on one about all their gardening questions and concerns. I have the opportunity to see all kinds of landscape problems, pruning needs, needs for adding year round curb appeal, and I can offer suggestions for planting the right plant in the right place. Often times, the questions are how to manage the plants you already have. Together we may find a better and easier way to have a beautiful yard.
Gardening can and should be a rewarding source of fun, exercise, and relaxation. Many of you tell me that gardening is your therapy.
Happy gardening,

Do you want to have beautiful planters without the mess?
Free Potting Days!
Beautiful planters start with a good potting soil, proper fertilizer, great plants, professionally designed and planted just for you.
It's important to consider the growing needs of plants when you plant them together in a planter. Do they want to grow in the sun or shade? How will they look together as they grow? Will the colors and plants compliment each other? The staff at Pinehurst can help you find the answers to these or any questions you may have.
During our annual potting days, you can bring your empty pots to Pinehurst, pick out the plants from our huge selection of flowers, vegetable and herbs, and our professional staff will plant and fertilize them for you. You can watch them at work or take the opportunity for a relaxing stroll through the breath taking nursery displays. You pay only for the soil and plants you choose. You take your planted pots home and we clean up the mess.

| Frequently Asked Questions:
What perennial can I add to the shrub beds in the front of my house to add color all summer long?
If you want color all summer, I would suggest you add a few annuals. Most perennials have a certain bloom time, spring, summer, or fall. A few bloom summer through fall. Annuals, on the other hand, bloom all summer long. In the fall you just pull them out and you have a nice neat landscape throughout the winter months.
How do you take care of perennial grass?
In the fall, when the grass dies back, you can cut it to the ground or leave it through the winter. Grass that has died still has a very nice form through the winter. In the spring, before it starts to grow, cut it back to the ground. Often times you see it where someone has cut it back to about a foot high. Not only is that not very attractive, but when the grass starts to grow the dead grass is still showing.
Is it okay to prune my roses now?
Yes. A good rule of thumb is to prune them when the yellow forsythia bushes are blooming in the spring. They bloom according to the weather. Any time you prune you stimulate new growth. Pruning too early may cause growth that may be frozen back. Roses growing on the south side of a house will come out earlier and can be pruned earlier.
Always seal the ends of the cuts you make. This is where bores enter the stems. You can use elmers glue, a tack, or pruning sealer.
What vegetables can I plant now?
It is the perfect time to plant cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, and onion plants. From seed plant peas, carrots, radishes, lettuce, and most root crops. Tomatoes can be planted if you use a protector such as a wall of water.
Is it best to use a fertilizer with weed control on my grass?
If you have an over abundance of broadleaf weeds, such as dandelions, you may need to use a weed and feed. If you have just a few weeds, you can use a bottle of ready to use weed killer and spot treat them. The chemical that kills the weeds, leaves a residue in the soil. This can build up and damage the root of trees growing in the lawn. It only kills actively growing broadleaf weeds by going in the leaves and through the plants system, so it will not do any good to put it on grass that doesn't have weeds.
