Ideas and Inspiration for the Holidays                                   November 24, 2009
Dear

What an exciting time of year!  The holidays are upon us.  Thanksgiving is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with your family and friends.  With all the hustle and bustle of getting the meal prepared, don't forget to make your table look as wonderful as your food will taste, with a beautiful, festive, fresh flower centerpiece. Research shows it may also improve the mood at the table.  If you are lucky and have an invitation out, a holiday centerpiece is a perfect hostess gift. Give us a call and we can deliver beautiful flowers to your home.

It's time to think about decorating for Christmas.  Fresh mixed wreaths, as well as pine and spruce boughs, add fragrance and festivity to your home.  We have dipped them in a preservative, so they will last longer for you. Be sure to shop while the selection is at its best.

Hopefully you had time to put your lawn and garden to bed for the winter. If you haven't already done so, now is the best time to winterize your roses.

Happy Thanksgiving,Young costume parade winner

Flowers Can Do More Than Make Your Thanksgiving Table Beautiful
A beauatiful fresh centerpiece is a great way to make your family happy
Appointed as a day to give thanks for the bountiful gifts of the land, the first national Thanksgiving day was proclaimed by George Washington and celebrated on November 26, 1789. In 1863 Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday to be celebrated on the last Thursday of November.

What a wonderful day to gather our family and friends to celebrate all the things we  have to be grateful for. By adding a beautiful fresh Thanksgiving centerpiece to your table you may be adding more than the flowers.

With people's desire for tranquility and stress relief stronger than ever, the latest research takes an insightful look at flowers and the important role they may play in our daily lives. A behavioral research study conducted by Nancy Etcoff, Ph.D., of Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, reveals that people feel more compassionate toward others, have less worry and anxiety, and feel less depressed when fresh cut flowers are present in the home.

"Other research has proven that flowers make people happy when they receive them," Etcoff says. "What we didn't know is that spending a few days with flowers in the home can affect a wide variety of feelings." The Home Ecology of Flowers Study at Harvard uncovered three main findings:
  • Flowers feed compassion.
Study participants, who lived with fresh cut flowers for less than a week, felt an increase in feelings of compassion and kindness for others.
  • Flowers chase away anxieties, worries and the blues at home.
  • Overall, people in the study simply felt less negative after being around flowers at home for just a few days.
We always knew we loved flowers, now we know why.
