Twin Langdons

Two Langdons

During a recent visit to the Langdon House, Admiral and Mrs. O'Hanlon remarked on the similarities to their residence at Norfolk Naval Base, which is a replica of the Langdon House, built in 1907. According to a booklet provided by Mrs. O'Hanlon, the replica was made as the New Hampshire House for the Jamestown Exposition in Norfolk, which celebrated the 1607 tercentennial of the founding of Jamestown. The New Hampshire House was later acquired by the Navy and then moved to its current spot in 1934. It sits with thirteen other surviving state houses on "admiral's row" and is occupied by the commander of the Naval Air Force, Atlantic.

The O'Hanlons plan to create an archive of Langdon House material at their Norfolk home for all future residents to enjoy. Historic New England will continue providing information to the O'Hanlons.

Beauport garden rooms
As much as Henry Davis Sleeper enjoyed entertaining in the rooms within Beauport, he also loved to entertain in the garden rooms. Visit Beauport and see the newly restored landscape, with Sleeper's original exterior staircase and terraces, and plenty of new plantings.  Follow the Beauport blog for more information on this project and other restoration projects at Beauport.
