40K NARRATIVE
Introducing Yet Another New & Innovative
NOVA Open Gaming Event for 2012:
The DC Narrative!
The Warhammer 40,000 Narrative Event will bring attendees into a unique, immersive gaming experience custom-tailored to each attendee's style of enjoying the hobby.
Beginning the night of Thursday, August 30, players will be deployed by celebrity commanders to battle against each other as a member of one of two factions - Washington, DC Defenders and Attackers.
Instead of participating in a story driven by the Warhammer 40,000 universe, where every army in the game is mysteriously and fortuitously present at one time, participants in the NOVA Open's Narrative Event will be using their Codex and army of choice to drive a story surrounding an extraterrestrial invasion of a future Earth.
The NOVA Open staff of volunteers is hard at work building many of Washington, DC's iconic monuments and memorials in miniature replica. Participants in the Narrative will not only battle it out against their peers with everything from standard 40K armies to Forgeworld/Imperial Armor, they'll be doing it amidst a recreation of our nation's capital!
The story begun at this year's event will be influenced in the future by the stand-out achievements of our participants. Player-named characters and commanders who distinguish themselves may show up in the ongoing story inaugurated in 2012. Monuments honoring particularly accomplished characters may appear on the battlefields of future NOVA Open Narrative Events.
The Narrative is scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, beginning at 7:30pm. Players will participate in battles to earn points for their faction. The story branch each day is flexible and dependent on which faction wins the prior evening. Prior to game start, and following the day's primary tournament action, our celebrity commanders will brief players on the development of the story to that point.
Friends and Family and Washington, DC
During the day of Saturday, September 1, narrative participants NOT playing in the Warhammer 40,000 GT ~ as well as spouses/family/friends of participants who ARE playing ~ will have the opportunity to participate in a photographic scavenger hunt across Washington, DC in pursuit of additional points for the player's faction. This hunt will include riddles and hints that lead players to specific photo ops throughout the capital . . . and provide players/family members with a self-guided Metro tour of DC's best and most iconic locations.

T-SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST
Calling all Artists!
The NOVA Open has always had a special relationship with its players. We want to include you in another new opportunity!
Have you ever imagined seeing your artwork on a T-shirt? We'd like to give you a helping hand. Design a T-shirt (front and back) for the NOVA Open. Win, and we will print/sell shirts with your design (including your moniker) online and at the convention in August! Your win and design will also be advertised at our website and in all of our Event Media Guides, as well.

Design submissions need to include a graphic design for front and back of t-shirt. Format should be submitted in .jpg or .png; minimum resolution 300dpi. Submit all other inquiries to the above email address.
JUDGES
The NOVA volunteer staff includes 20 people serving in Key Personnel positions. These individuals will serve as judges.
