Hightail it Outdoors, Small Dog Love & It's All in the Family this Summer

Field TripAnimalSense's favorite time of year is just around the corner! Summer lets us unleash our outdoor fun classes, plus we've got a couple of new classes in our bag of tricks, er treats.

Our most popular class, Field Trip, returns with six weeks of training with your dog in our busy city and 'burbs. This class offers real-life situations so you can hone your dog's skills in this crazy world we call life.

There's no better time of year to work on your Recall and Leash Manners than summertime. Treat yourself to a well-mannered dog for this season's walks!

Get the entire family involved in our new class: The Family Dog. Dog safety, communication, basic skills and fun games are on tap for this family-friendly class.

Small DogsOur new Small Dogs Rule class highlights the little loved ones in our lives. It's a training class that's designed for small dogs living in a big dog world.

Of course, our class calendar would not be complete without our usual favorite classes Fido Foundations, Canine Good Citizen, Doggone Issues and Shy Dog, plus much more including lots of puppy classes.

Don't see a class offered in your area yet? We'll come to you! Check out our in-home Private Training packages offered seven days a week to fit your schedule.
Play Groups: We Want Your Opinion

Are you looking for a new kind of play group for your dog? One that:
  • Is monitored by a professional trainer
  • Helps pet parents recognize appropriate dog play
  • Requires an evaluation of your dog in order to be able to participate
  • Entails a loose but enforced play structure with owner participation
AnimalSense is considering offering this service, but we want to hear from you! Are you interested? If so, please take a few minutes to complete our survey

New Trainer Doubles as Entrepreneur

Andrea Obey is putting her name to good use. Now a Junior Trainer for AnimalSense, Andrea also recently started her own business: Sit. Walk. Obey. which focuses on in-home pet care for animals who may have special medical or behavioral needs. Andrea is certified in pet CPR and first aid, a certified dog walker with dog*tec, works at an animal hospital as a vet assistant and client care representative, and is working toward earning her CPDT certification.

Andrea ObeyDog training runs in her family. Her cousin, dog trainer Kelly Gorman Dunbar and her husband, Dr. Ian Dunbar definitely had an influence on Andrea's path with animals. "Kelly and Ian played a large part by opening up a whole world of science-based training and also working at the zoo.  I think I was amazed at watching one of my dogs turn around behaviorally by using more of Ian's methods and then also using a lot of those positive reinforcement methods at the zoo with wildlife," said Andrea.

However, the decision to become a dog trainer didn't happen immediately. "
It was more of a process for me.  I never had the "a-ha!" moment everyone talks about. It was after years of working with animals," said Andrea.

A graduate of AnimalSense Academy (now CanineLink), Andrea is excited to gain even more experience with dogs as a trainer. When she talks shop with her cousin, she presents a case, her assessment and see if Kelly agrees. "Thankfully so far, she mostly has," says Andrea.
