As I was thinking about sending out holiday cards, I had a sudden inspiration. I thought, instead of sending out a card that I know eventually just ends up in the trash, why not give something that will benefit those in need this year? Giving a Second Harvest Heartland gift is a powerful way to celebrate the holidays while making a difference in the lives of families, children and seniors in our community who may be in a difficult financial position at this time. I decided to make a gift to Second Harvest Heartland on behalf of all my clients because I appreciate you and want to thank you for your support by helping to make a difference in the lives of others.
Have a Happy Holiday Season and a Wonderful New Year!

How to prep your mower, tools and home for winter
It's time to put some of your tools to bed and prepare your home for the cold months.
By Roy Berendsohn of Popular Mechanics
You may be prepared for the snow to fall, but you had better make sure your home and tools are ready for the cold months ahead. We'll tell you how to properly store those tools you won't need, and how to prepare the ones you'll be using this winter.
Mower A mower used at the end of the season needs to be emptied of fuel. First, drain or siphon the gas tank dry. If the gasoline you've been using in the mower over the summer has a fuel preservative, you can store it until next spring or run it in your snow thrower. If the gasoline has not had a preservative added, you need to use it up as soon as possible. Allowing it to sit over the winter will cause the ethanol in the gasoline to separate and its other chemical components to degrade. It's also likely that condensation will form in the gas tank.

Getting a mortgage after foreclosure
There are some additional hurdles for homeowners who have gone through a foreclosure, short sale or bankruptcy, but a little patience and some financial hard work will go a long way.
By Marcie Geffner of Bankrate.com
Buying a home is a challenging goal for most hopeful homeowners. But for those who have experienced a bankruptcy, foreclosure or short sale, the hurdles are even higher.
Still, it's not impossible to buy a home after financial difficulties, says Dan Keller, a mortgage banker with Hometown Lending in Everett, Wash. In fact, Keller says, people who have cleaned up their credit and are otherwise qualified to get a mortgage can buy a home as soon as they have outlasted a prescribed waiting period after the bankruptcy, foreclosure or short sale.
