Eiata / Miata EV WINS KLEENSPEED 1st Place in

EV Conversion Class At ReFuel 2011

KleenSpeed Technologies demonstrated the viability of their world-class electric vehicle propulsion engineering with a convincing win in the EV production vehicle conversion class with the Eiata.  This class win is in addition to their outright title of world's fastest EV won by the KleenSpeed EV-X11 at the same event.

Driven by KleenSpeed president, Tim Collins, the Eiata took first place in a diverse field of EV conversions with a lap time of 2:22.972 - over 19 seconds quicker than the 2nd place finisher, a converted Porsche 914.  This is a remarkably quick time for an EV with the power and capacity specs of the KleenSpeed LITE SYSTEM, considering that the Eiata chassis is essentially stock, running on street tires, with no significant track modifications.  For comparison purposes, a stock gas-powered Miata typically laps Laguna Seca in the 2:05 -2:10 range.

Tim  Collins comments on the class win :
"The LITE SYSTEM performed impressively, and offered very steady and controllable power, with no heat issues or power limitation problems.  It is an absolutely bullet-proof system and an elegant conversion. The vehicle integration engineering by KleenSpeed balanced the system perfectly.

The Eiata EV actually drives better at the track than a stock Miata, despite the lower overall horsepower.  Weight distribution is 50/50 between the front and back wheels, this enabled the Eiata to keep its momentum and hold maximum speed through the corners, which shaved seconds off every straightaway due to higher exit speeds.  With such neutral handling, the Pirelli P Zero low rolling resistance tires had sufficient grip to cut a fast lap. "

The KleenSpeed Eiata is very practical EV conversion, proven in over 7,000 miles of real world testing, including Mr. Collins commuting from San Francisco to Mountain View and back every day. The fact that the Eiata also is capable of winning its class on a challenging race track is an additional validation of KleenSpeed's position as a leader in EV R&D.

ABOUT THE EIATA

The KleenSpeed Eiata is a development prototype for the KS LITE SYSTEM, a technology package developed for EV conversions in vehicles with gross weight under 2,500 lbs.  The KS LITE SYSTEM is offered as a complete system for converting the Mazda Miata sports car to a practical, real world EV, and also can be fitted to many other suitable conversion vehicles.  The KleenSpeed LITE SYSTEM is priced at $14,990

The Eiata is based on a 1990 Mazda Miata, which was fitted with the first generation KleenSpeed LITE EPS Electric Power System in 2010.  The Eiata has been driven over 7,000 development miles at this point and was entered in a race event at this year's ReFuel for the first time.  To date, no issues or problems have surfaced with the KleenSpeed EV conversion in over a year of day-to-day operation.  Typical range is 60-70 miles per charge, and power and acceleration are more than adequate to handle brisk freeway travel. Top speed is in excess of 95 MPH.

Tim Collins & The Eiata

"We believe the Eiata is the perfect electric sports car with total reliability, good performance and range. Expect to see new electric powered sports cars like the Eiata in the future. A car as good as the Miata or Eiata needs to be reinvented every generation."  Tim Collins

The KleenSpeed LITE SYSTEM used to create the Eiata is priced at $14,990 and includes the following components:
AC induction motor with 50 peak horsepower
KleenSpeed Motor controller and dashboard display
KleenSpeed Battery management and charge system
KleenSpeed Lithium ion batteries totaling 20.7 kWh
Cables, connectors, contactor and DC/DC converter.

" With the Eiata we set out to prove that KleenSpeed technology can work in the real world, in an affordable, practical, reliable daily driver EV.  Winning the conversion class at ReFuel 2011 is exactly the type of result we were looking for and shows just how sound our engineering is, and how well a properly designed EV system can perform."

"Racing is a very useful tool in accelerating the R&D process for our EV systems and components.  KleenSpeed's participation in EV racing and the knowledge we have gained through competition gives us a distinct competitive advantage in EV technology.  When we understand how our systems behave on the absolute edge, the race track, we can use this data to create better road systems. Racing makes us smarter and puts KleenSpeed's technology to the supreme test."

"Everything we have learned and developed on the race track has transferred directly to our commercial project capabilities."
