CMA ADDS 17 NEW SUSTAINING MEMBERS 

TOTAL CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP STANDS AT 178 

     In the December issue of the newsletter, CMA was pleased to announce the addition of 13 new sustaining members; in the last two months alone, our corporate membership has grown by 17 and now stands at the highest level since CMA adopted the corporate dues structure that has been in effect since 1994.

COLORADO COAL'S COMEBACK

STATE REACHES NUMBER 9 SPOT IN 2011

JOB CREATION UP - BUT FUEL SWITCH WILL IMPACT MARKETS    

     Colorado's coal industry helped the state's economy recover in 2011 by increasing production to 27.8 million tons, 10% above 2010 levels, according to figures released by COAL AGE magazine.   As a result, Colorado jumped back into the top ten coal producing states, finishing in 9th place above North Dakota.

NOMINATIONS DEADLINE FEBRUARY 21

     The Colorado Mining Association's Annual Membership meeting will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at the Westin Tabor Center in Denver, Colorado. The purpose of the meeting will be to elect officers and directors, receive the annual reports of the president and treasurer, approve the appointment of an auditor, and transact such other business as may properly come before the meeting.

CMA, STATES AND OTHERS ALL AGREE ON ONE THING

THE MERGER OF THE BLM WITH OSM IS A BAD IDEA!

     A recently announced proposal by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to consolidate within one agency the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) with the Office of Surface Mining (OSM) met fierce resistance from all who attended at public hearing in Lakewood January 24.
