| Greetings!
I'm not sure if it's because I'm getting older, or if it's because time really is moving more quickly but if you're anything like me, you're wondering, "Where did the year go?"
I also wonder about how time seems to slow down when I share it with horses. Things slow down, life slows down, I slow down which is supposedly what winter is all about. But before entering into what I hope will be a season of "horse time", I wanted to share a story from the past, and take a look toward the future...

The Sacred Ride
Be welcomed to the land by an 18 hand giant - whose gentle shadow follows as you walk amongst the herd.
There, in a creek-lined meadow, you are visited by horses who are balanced and loved, who choose to approach, to inquire, sharing space with you on their terms, in their own way.
You're on horse time now...
See your reflection in the eye of the horse.
Look closely, and know...
There is more to horses than just "the ride".
Partnership over ownership. Companionship over conquest.
The power comes in connection.
These are some of the words my friend Ainsley and I use to describe The Sacred Ride, a program we offer each summer that connects people to the heart of horses and to their own heart as well.
Every year I look forward to joining my dear friend to share our love of horses and the wilderness with six kindred spirits. In May of 2008 this all changed. A riding accident left me unconsious and broken and the thought of riding felt as far from sacred as I could imagine.

As a Horse Conscious Teacher myself, and a member of Epona's first apprenticeship program, it is an honour to let you know that through January 2nd, a new web symposium entitled The Power of the Herd featuring Linda Kohanov will be offered at a special rate. "For years," Linda says, "I've been looking for ways to create a special on-line course for people who either can't attend an Epona workshop or who have recently returned from a clinic with us and want to reinforce their skills, translating them more effectively into human contexts. People have also told me they wished they had an at-home course to offer Epona-based skills to friends, business colleagues, and family members. This fall, I'm happy to say, I found the perfect inspiration and partner in this effort, Mark Mottershead, who developed the HorseConscious website, originally inspired by Stormy May's wonderful film The Path of the Horse."
Linda's upcoming book The Power of the Herd, is due out in the fall of 2012 and you can bet it will be featured in the Book Barn.
