ecause we are a public library that does not receive tax monies, every year we must raise close to one million dollars above and beyond what the Gold Mine contributes.
(click on the orange letters for more information)
ere is (some of) what we do with all that money each year:
- offer over 80 cultural programs,
- open our doors to all, 6 days a week = 140,000 visitors/year,
- host an annual Fiestas Patrias Day for the Spanish-speaking community,
- in 2011 created a special section in the Reference Room for travel-related books (note that Arthur and Pauline Frommer will be at the Library on 15 June 2012!), and
- many more day-to-day projects I am happy to tell you about in person or via email if you like.
ur biggest accomplishment this year was (ta da!) installation of a fiber-optic connection to radically increase our bandwidth. The pertinent press release includes $122,000 worth of details.
ut the Library is (much!) more than a lightning-fast Internet connection. Although we are carefully making a studied move toward acquiring more e-books, and devices that our patrons can use for reading those e-books, we still purchase many many "real" books (and magazines and music CDs and educational DVDs) in an effort to offer all patrons and visitors FREE access to a wide variety of up-to-date materials. That is but one aspect of our Vision to be RELENTLESSLY RELEVANT.
he Library thrives only because the community believes in us and what we do. (See details about what we do in our annual brochure.) We are grateful for your past support and are appreciative in advance of any donation you might choose to give (click on orange letters for our address).
ll best wishes to you and your family for the season, and the upcoming year!
